Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Allison.
Hi Alex , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started photography by buying a little Canon T3i and shooting photos of what I loved. My family, friends, creative styled shoots and thrifting adventures. Then, I started being asked to photograph people, and I was absolutely hooked.
I realized how passionate I was about telling people’s stories and I couldn’t get enough. The way they would look at each other, the way a child held his mother’s hand, the way a groom would look at his bride coming down the aisle. It was and has been one of the best adventures, and honestly an honor to be a small part of someone else’s story.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say it has been a mostly smooth road. A lot of my troubles with this job happened at the very beginning which was a blessing in disguise. I really thought about quitting after shooting my first wedding because it was such a miserable experience and honestly the second and third one were too. After a lot of tears were shed, and trusting the process, I started finding my people. The people that made me PASSIONATE again about photography and I am so thankful for that.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in storytelling through a cinematic lens. I am known for documenting the little moments and the overlooked moments; the moments that are often missed. I am the most proud of being able to send a gallery off to a client and for them to be able to relive every second of their wedding or photo shoot because of the little things I capture. I love that I get to give the gift of time back to people. I have heard it so many times from my clients that they can feel every moment, and that they re-visit their photos whenever they need a sweet reminder of the season they were in.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Honestly, there aren’t a lot. I really just take it back to Jesus and ask how to serve my clients well. I have always wanted Him to be the center of my business, and I always get creative ideas after I pray over the shoot I get to have.
