Conversations with Debbie Ashkar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Ashkar.

Hi Debbie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Being a stay at home mom with a daycare didn’t seem to be what I needed to fulfill my ambitions. It was a good friend that saw my artistic abilities and the love for painting that encouraged me to be a painter. Finding a company that was willing to give me a chance as someone who never painted professionally is what helped get me to where I am today. After three years with the company I remember what my boss told me before he decided to close the doors. “ If I can’t make it with you I can’t make it with anybody”. The words were inspiring but put me right back at the starting line again. Unexpectedly, I started having the homeowners and contractors I had painted for contact me requesting my painting skills. I was on my way to what I didn’t know would be a start of my own company. 22 years later I have 5 wonderful painters one of which is my daughter. She has helped me keep the company going when I couldn’t do it myself because of medical injuries. Her dedication of over 17 years has made a great mother daughter team along with dedicated painters I also consider family.
It’s true what they say that “team work makes the dream work”.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting your reputation out there isn’t always easy. Costumer satisfaction and referrals is what has kept the company going. Not always having a good painter can cause set backs with your reputation and you have to work twice as hard to get it back.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets us apart from others is punctuality and completion. One of the biggest complaints I hear is companies not being punctual and not staying until the job is done. We do both. We try to offer a variety in services from drywall repair, staining, wall painting, decks to wallpaper and cabinet refinishing.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about St Louis is the variety of people you get to meet with a variety of tastes in design and color. What I like least is the amount of other painting companies that try to rip off homeowners.

Pricing:

  • Not the cheapest but not the most expensive.
