Conversations with Dominique Nash

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Nash.

Hi Dominique, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a food blogger. I started our food blog called “Welcome2theNashHouse” originally to find a way to have fun with my children and to keep my mind preoccupied during the pandemic. I suffered with postpartum depression and anxiety at times and needed a way to help cope with all the different changes in my life. At the beginning of the pandemic, my husband and I had our 4th child and as happy as we were with our new bundle of joy, the world shut down because of the coronavirus and I felt post-partum approaching so I reached out for counseling. During my virtual sessions, my therapist and I came to the conclusion that I needed to do something for myself to fulfill my “own” time. A time that is “Dominique’s” time. I had no idea what I could do being a new stay at home mom with four children so, I talked with my husband and thought about blogging. The only problem was, I had no idea what to blog about and I wasn’t sure if I could open up to the world on that level yet.

So I decided to first start a podcast. It was called “Womanhood Empowerment; Mom’s Tips and tricks.” I would share it with my Facebook and Instagram friends and people were listening! My mind was blown! I grew confident, so I started opening up more by having Q & A. Then, I would post photos of my food and people would comment and in that moment, I knew that I could do it. I could start a food blog! Giving people inspiration to cook at home or teaching them how to cook just made sense. My kids started to notice how many views we had and wanted to be a part of videos especially when I made chocolate chip cookies. I found it comforting that I could inspire them to open up to blogging and teaching them how to cook at the same time. Now, we create tutorials together and I am looking forward to continuing to inspire people through our food blog.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to success is always bumpy. Otherwise, what’s the point, right? Lol, yes the road has been bumpy. Being over-critical of my own work and overthinking is always the biggest obstacle. Along with maintaining people’s attention lol but those obstacles push you to find your purpose of doing what you are doing. Once you identify the “What” of your business and the “Why”, it makes the obstacles fun and inspires creativity.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love doing my food blog because of the response I get when people see my food. Seeing comments saying, “That looks delicious ” or “Could I have the recipe?” That is the fuel. I am proud of building our YouTube Channel into this diary of food. Honestly, I am just happy to leave my own documentary in the world that everyone has the option to see at any time they want. That makes me proud!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really believe in luck, per se, but I do feel blessed. Blessed to be able to find a place in this world that feels like me. Blessed to have my family to be a part of it and enjoy it.
