Conversations with Emery Cannon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emery Cannon.

Hi Emery, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story started after I was honorably discharged from the U.S Army. I was looking for a career that would support me and my family. I found a career in Sales at One of the largest Chevrolet dealerships in Nashville TN. Jim Reed Chevrolet. There I learned how to sale cars. I found a career that I like and learned to be great. It was not an easy process because I didnt realize there were steps to the sale. Once I learned that selling was a process I mastered those processes. From the meet and greet to the follow up I tried my best to learn and adapt the process to my character. At first learning the process and wanting to get promoted into bigger roles conflicted. I knew where I wanted to end up but I had so much I needed to learn to get to that point. I slowly started to rise after I became very successful at sales. Then I was able to learn about financing and joined the Special finance team. I soon became a sales manager at another dealership, then store manager at another dealership finally reaching my goal as General Manager. I found so many sales people coming and going through out my career that had talent but no training and no direction that I decided I wanted to preserve the career start training and coaching sales people because it was the industry that I love and has provided a great living for me. I started coaching those that worked for me only and after watching their success I decided I wanted to make it a company so I started Cannon Sales Consulting. A firm that helps mold and develop sales people. I started by getting my Certified Professional Coach and Certified Life Coach from Lindenwood University. This was important to me. How could I expect clients to invest their resources in me if I didnt invest in myself. I take coaching very serious. I then wrote my first book. Its not Rocket Science, Its Sales. A book that describes the process to the sales. Step by Step instructions a person can use to get to their very first sale. Its not a book of fluff its really how to do it. I then tapped in to my life coaching ability and wrote my second book. Because Life Be Lifing. I wrote this book because I started getting a lot of clients on the life coaching side of my business. This book is my best selling book, breaking the top 100 on amazon motivational self help books landing and debuting at number 67 in first month sales. Finally this year I released my book You Deserve. I wrote this book to help shift mindset. I wanted to create a space for people that proves a positive mindset can overcome and simplify any objection.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been anything but smooth. Honestly if it was smooth I wouldn’t be who I am today. Everything we go through has away of navigating and teaching us everything we need to learn for every new journey we begin. Every loss I have encountered help me get to the bigger win. With every blessing comes sacrifice. Once you realize that success comes with setbacks and cost you start to understand why its called success. We all have purpose, we all have goals. How do we envision completing these goals? How do we simplify the objections? We start on the journey. We do trial and error, we learn from our mistakes, we become life learners. Life learner win because they know to become successful you must adapt. That is the difference in being successful and unsuccessful. We must all learn to adapt because nothing will ever stay the same.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Its funny you ask me what I specialize in. If you Google what I specialize in it would state I specialize in sales training, professional development, and career mentorship. I would like to think I specialize in People. Listening and Understanding the Needs of each individual. I would love for that to be my legacy. Fulfilling the needs of the people. More than money is how you affect the world. I would love for the world to be a better place than I found it. I would love to think someone listened to on of my videos or read one of my books and it changed their perspective. I am most proud of The books I leave behind. 3 or 4 generations from now can read one of those books and it still be relevant. As far as setting myself apart from others. I would think its my drive to really wanting to help those in need, not just those that can afford my hourly rate. I have a real passion to want to see everyone successful. Its possible.

How do you define success?
For me success isn’t about chasing money, titles, or validation. Success for me at this age is more about alignment not achievement. Its more about becoming the person you want to be. Getting closer to who you are as a Great Human Being.
