Today we’d like to introduce you to Janell Harris
Hi Janell, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey began when I enrolled in esthetician school. The world of esthetics is vast, offering many different paths to explore and find your passion. At first, I wasn’t sure where I wanted to focus my energy. In April 2023, our class had the opportunity to attend the Americas Beauty Show in Chicago. The event was filled with numerous venues, diverse people, and countless options to explore. One particular booth, Lash Box LA, stood out to me. They were offering live demonstrations of the lash extension process, had mannequins for practice, and staff available to assist. I decided to try applying lash extensions myself for the first time, and the experience felt surprisingly natural. In fact, people were so impressed that they asked, “Are you a lash technician?” I would always respond, “No, this is my first time,” which would often leave them shocked. They encouraged me to keep going, which I did. From that moment on, I fell in love with lash extensions.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has definitely been far from easy, but I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I’ve gained so much through patience and perseverance. Lash extensions are a delicate skill, and mastery comes only with consistent practice. In the beginning, consistency was a challenge, and I faced many struggles. From finding the right products to match the art I wanted to create, to earning the trust of clients to work on their eyes, it wasn’t easy. But progress never comes without challenges. Staying motivated and truly appreciating the process has given me a fresh perspective on my work and on life overall. It has taught me that with consistency, authenticity, and patience, you can achieve your goals and be where you want to be before you know it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an esthetician specializing in lash extensions, offering both hybrid and volume sets. In the future, I plan to expand my services by adding more advanced treatments to my menu, while continuing to educate myself and learn new skills along the way. What I’m most proud of is my dedication to this craft and my consistency. Two years ago, I was indecisive and uncertain about my direction in life, constantly jumping from one niche to the next without fully committing to any of them. But since starting this journey, I’ve experienced tremendous growth—not just in my work, but as a woman. For me, it’s not about the money—I genuinely enjoy learning and perfecting my craft. I also love making women feel beautiful and take pride in earning their trust, knowing that mastering this skill takes immense time and effort.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
My family runs a Non-Profit Organization in memory of my little brother EJ, who passed away in 2018. After enduring such a tremendous loss, we chose to turn our pain into purpose by supporting others in need. We organize Christmas drives, food drives, back-to-school drives, and many other events throughout the year. Our focus is always on helping those in need, especially during the holidays and back-to-school season.
