Conversations with Julia Dinh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Dinh.

Hi Julia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

We opened in early January 2026 in a space that was previously home to another business. Instead of waiting until everything felt perfect, we opened our doors, welcomed our neighbors, listened closely, and have continued making thoughtful improvements every step of the way.

One lesson I’ve learned over the past two decades is that customer experience is everything. That’s why we approach Rosa Cafe like a startup: we listen, we learn, we iterate, and we keep improving. Every suggestion, compliment, and piece of feedback helps shape who we become. Thank you for being part of our journey.

From the beginning, our vision has been to create a welcoming, community-centered space where people from all walks of life can gather, connect, and simply be themselves. I was born in Vietnam and have lived across three continents, and those experiences taught me to appreciate different cultures and to look for the common threads that bring people together.

Rosa Cafe is for everyone—whether you’re a remote worker, student, artist, entrepreneur, parent, retiree, wellness enthusiast, book lover, member of the LGBTQ+ community, part of a faith community, involved in a support group, or simply someone looking for connection, a great cup of coffee, and a place to pause. The dark and the pale, the purple and the blue humans, and everyone in between—no matter your background, identity, beliefs, or story, you’re welcome here.

Our hope is that Rosa Cafe becomes more than just a coffee shop. We want it to be a place where friendships begin, ideas are shared, cultures are celebrated, and everyone feels like they belong.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Starting a business from the ground up comes with constant challenges—from limited resources and financial uncertainty to finding the right team and building customer awareness. Because we opened before everything was perfect, we’ve had to learn, adapt, and improve in real time.

One of our biggest challenges has been transforming the identity of the location. The previous business primarily had a mostly male customer base. Some former customers still return expecting the same products, services, and atmosphere, which we no longer offer. Establishing Rosa Cafe as a completely different business—with a fresh brand, an inclusive environment, and a strong focus on coffee, wellness, creativity, and community—has required patience and consistency.

At the same time, we want to appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds. Our menu ranges from fun, viral specialty drinks for customers who enjoy trying something new to classic options for traditional coffee drinkers. Creating that balance while building a clear and recognizable identity has taken a great deal of experimentation and careful listening.

There are busy days filled with energy and quieter days that make you question everything. But every challenge has taught me something valuable. I’ve learned to listen to our customers, trust my instincts, and continue moving forward even when the path isn’t clear. Rosa Cafe is still growing, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Before opening Rosa Cafe, I spent 20 years working in corporate environments, where I was often an “intrapreneur”—someone who helped companies establish new processes, build products, solve problems, and turn ideas into reality. I became a leader in the corporate world and achieved what many people would consider success, but over time, that success began to feel empty. I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and live up to my full potential by creating something of my own that felt more personal, meaningful, and connected to the community.

One of my greatest strengths throughout my career has always been people management. I naturally connect with people from all walks of life, and I’m able to relate, communicate, and build trust across different backgrounds, cultures, and personalities. That ability has shaped how I lead teams and how I approach customer experience in everything I do.

I have always loved coffee and beverages, baking, creating new things has been one of my favorite creative outlets. I also started several businesses in different industries, although they never fully took off. Still, each experience taught me something and kept my entrepreneurial spirit alive. I had always dreamed of being in the restaurant and hospitality industry, so when the opportunity to open Rosa Cafe came along, I knew I had to say yes.

Today, I bring together my experience in leadership, product development, customer experience, people management, and business building to shape Rosa Cafe. We specialize in both traditional coffee and creative specialty beverages—from classic espresso drinks to colorful, viral-inspired creations, matcha, kava, and unique cream-top drinks. We also offer fusion foods and host events focused on music, wellness, learning, and community connection.

What sets us apart is that we are creating more than a coffee shop. Rosa Cafe is a welcoming space for people of different ages, cultures, identities, and interests. Whether someone wants a traditional cup of coffee, an adventurous new drink, a place to work, or an opportunity to connect with others, there is something here for them.

I am most proud that I took a chance on myself and created something from the ground up. Rosa Cafe is still evolving, but seeing customers enjoy the space, watching our team grow, creating jobs, and bringing people together makes the journey meaningful. After years of helping other companies build their visions, I am finally building my own.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I lived in different parts of the world, including Southeast Asia and Europe. Being exposed to different cultures, languages, traditions, and foods at an early age shaped the way I see people and the world. I learned that while every culture has its own unique qualities, there is always a common thread connecting us—especially through food, hospitality, and shared experiences, and through the presence of interesting and talented people I met along the way.

Personality-wise, I have always been intellectually curious and drawn to interesting and talented people, especially those who think differently, create boldly, and challenge the way things are understood. I value authenticity, meaningful conversations, and deep connections rather than surface-level interactions. I have also always loved books because they allow me to explore new ideas, perspectives, and ways of life, often inspired by the remarkable people I encounter.

Those early experiences are still reflected in who I am today and in what I am creating at Rosa Cafe—a welcoming place where interesting and talented people from different backgrounds can come together, share food and drinks, exchange ideas, and discover the things they have in common.
