Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie.
Hi Leslie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The Story of Mama Pacha Sabor
Mama Pacha Sabor was born from a mother’s kitchen, a daughter’s love, and a community that believed in the power of food to heal, unite, and uplift. The heart of this story begins with my mother—known lovingly as Patria, or “Pacha”—whose hands carried the flavors of our Caribbean roots with grace and wisdom. Her kitchen was always a place of comfort, generosity, and tradition. Every dish she prepared was seasoned not only with adobo and sazón, but with patience, cariño, and the belief that food is a gift meant to be shared.
During the difficult days of the pandemic, I found myself cooking for families who were struggling with e-learning and therapy sessions. Out of necessity and compassion, meals became a way to raise funds so children could receive tablets and stay connected to school and services. What began as an act of service quickly revealed something deeper: the recipes my mother taught me still had the power to nourish both body and spirit.
From that moment, Mama Pacha Sabor was born—not just as a business, but as a continuation of her legacy. Our seasonings are crafted with clean, natural ingredients, free of fillers and preservatives, honoring the way our ancestors cooked. Every jar carries a piece of heritage and a commitment to community. Every sale helps support families, and local initiatives, staying faithful to the mission that started it all.
Mama Pacha Sabor is more than flavor. It is tradition, family, resilience, and purpose—shared one dish, one spice, and one act of love at a time. “Sabor and Culture in every Bite”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has been meaningful, but it has not been a smooth road. Like many small, mission-driven businesses, Mama Pacha Sabor was built through sacrifice, perseverance, and faith. Every step forward has required determination and a willingness to learn as I go.
One of the greatest struggles has been managing growth with limited resources. When the business began during the pandemic, I was cooking from home, raising funds for families, and learning how to make each dollar count. There were moments when ingredients were expensive, packaging was delayed, or sales were unpredictable. I had to stretch myself between cooking, delivering orders, building a brand, and caring for my own family.
Another challenge has been navigating the world of entrepreneurship without a traditional roadmap. From applying for permits and finding a certified kitchen, to creating labels, meeting retail standards, and pitching to organizations—each step required time, research, and patience. Funding opportunities were not always guaranteed, and there were many doors I had to knock on more than once.
Marketing and visibility have also been ongoing challenges. Competing with larger brands while maintaining clean, preservative-free ingredients demanded creativity and consistency.
Yet, through every struggle, the community has lifted me up. Supporters, mentors, and families who believe in the mission helped me stay focused. These challenges have shaped Mama Pacha Sabor into what it is today—resilient, rooted in tradition, and committed to serving with purpose.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Leslie Hernández — A Daughter’s Love, A Mother’s Legacy, A Commitment to Community
Mama Pacha Sabor was founded by Leslie Hernández, a proud Puerto Rican entrepreneur whose journey began not in a boardroom, but in her mother’s kitchen. Leslie grew up watching her mother, Patria—affectionately called Pacha—cook with devotion, purpose, and heart. Her mother’s food was more than nourishment; it was culture, connection, and care. Those lessons became the foundation of Leslie’s life and, eventually, the vision behind Mama Pacha Sabor.
Any big plans?
Building with Purpose. Growing with Tradition.
At Mama Pacha Sabor, our future is guided by the same values that shaped our beginning—family, culture, and service. As we continue to grow, we are committed to honoring our roots while expanding the reach of our Caribbean flavors and community work.
In the coming years, we plan to introduce a wider line of clean, handcrafted seasonings inspired by traditional Puerto Rican and Caribbean cooking. We aim to develop new blends, recipe kits, and educational cooking experiences that help families cook with authenticity and pride. Our long-term vision includes securing our own commercial kitchen space, allowing us to increase production, streamline operations, and create local job opportunities.
We are also focused on strengthening our presence in local grocery stores such as Schnucks in the Spring of 2026, markets, and community retailers, making it easier for families across the region to access our products. As our brand grows, we will continue building strategic partnerships with organizations that support youth, education, and food security.
Most importantly, Mama Pacha Sabor plans to expand its community impact, dedicating a portion of sales to programs that uplift children and families. Our goal is to create a sustainable model where every jar, every tray, and every class contributes to a stronger community.
The road ahead is filled with possibility, and we move forward with humility, determination, and gratitude. Thank you for being part of this journey.
