Conversations with Mookie Tolliver

Malcolm Tolliver ” known as Mookie Tolliver born on May 2, 1990. At only 31 years of age, Mookie is blessing the stage with his fresh urban R&B style. He is an inspiring (singer, dancer, actor, rapper, and music producer) from Madison, IL. Mookie started singing at the age of 4 and begin to run away with the sweet sounds of his voice. Hoping to make it in the industry. “It takes hard work and dedication,” he says, “but I have the drive to do so”. Mookie hopes you all can help him make it by being the best fans ever, also giving him feedback. Mookie’s ability to move a crowd with his smooth dance moves and powerful vocals gained him the attention of a diverse and passionate fan base and producers “Music is my heart and passion” he said and I put a lot of hard work and effort into it. He is an admirable young man who wants to inspire youth through creative arts and self-expression. His mother Madine Wiley (R.I.P) for teaching him to stay focused and put God first. Ever since my mom passed away 21 yrs. ago this has been my goal to showcase my talent. Since my mom passed, I wanted this, even more, to make her happy. Also being a prolific songwriter, as well as an accomplished actor, Mookie is truly a triple threat. He also plans to sting the scene with his acting and humbleness. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
What has been your biggest challenge as an artist trying to break into the mainstream music market? Maintaining a substantial budget for marketing is the most challenging. Without having a label or investors behind me…I have to work harder and use all of the resources that I can.

Malcolm Tolliver, known by his stage name “Mookie Tolliver” is a singer/songwriter who developed a passion for the musical arts at a young age decided that the only way out of the poverty-stricken neighborhood was to master his craft in order to not become a product of his environment. Mookie wants to inspire the youth through creative arts and self-expression. Mookie’s ability to move a crowd with his smooth dance moves and powerful vocals has gained him attention of numerous fans, music producers, and radio stations. “Fans give me the drive, power, and ability to be able to develop self-confidence. They make me who I am and without them, there’d be no Mookie Tolliver… They’re the key substance of my growth…” 

During my music journey, I was blessed to work with the likes of National Recording Artist Sammie and Dondria. Artist that I’ve opened up for were Sammie, Dondria, Bobby V, Jeremih, Day 26, Phora, Mario, Murphy Lee, Fresco Kane, Zues Rebels Waters, and Trina. Given the fact, Mookie was able to share the same stage along RnB group Dru Hill as they sang a couple of his favorite records together. 

Nov 2020 I finally released my first Ep Album called ” More About Love ” which grasped the likes of music blogs due to my relatable music. 

Any big plans?
I plan to remain focused and humble while I continue to study the art of music along with learning the acoustic guitar and keyboard. I’ve done a couple short films in the past. I find it challenging and quite interesting. I would love to begin acting again due to me being more than just a singer/songwriter
