Conversations with Morgan Tucker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Tucker.

Hi Morgan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been part of the tattoo and piercing industry for a long time, even before Pink Gem existed. My husband, Mike, has been tattooing since 1998, and together we’ve built St. Louis Ink into what it is today. Before I ever picked up a needle, I was the one behind the scenes doing a little bit of everything. I handled scheduling, marketing, customer service, inventory, social media, you name it.

That’s what led me to become a professional body piercer. I completed my apprenticeship, earned my license, and immediately knew I’d found what I was meant to do. I love that piercing combines technical skill, creativity, and building genuine relationships with people. Every appointment is different, and every client has their own story.

When I created Pink Gem, I wanted it to feel completely different from what people expected. I’ve always loved pink, and I wanted a space that felt soft, welcoming, and calming. So instead of a dark, intimidating piercing room, clients walk into an all pink space where they can relax, ask questions, and actually enjoy the experience. I wanted it to feel like visiting a friend instead of walking into a procedure.

Education has become one of the biggest parts of my job. I never want someone to leave wondering if they chose the right jewelry or how to care for their piercing. I love explaining anatomy, helping people understand the healing process, and making sure they feel comfortable every step of the way. I don’t believe in rushing people. I believe in giving them an experience they’ll remember for the right reasons.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest struggles has probably been balancing everything. I own a business, manage another one, create content, answer messages, keep up with continuing education, and still try to have a life outside of work. There are definitely days where it feels like there aren’t enough hours.

I also care a lot, sometimes probably too much. I want every client to have an amazing experience, every detail to be right, and every person who walks through my door to feel comfortable. While that’s one of my biggest strengths, it can also be one of the hardest parts because I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I perform a wide variety of ear, facial, body, and anatomy based piercings, and I especially love ear curation and helping clients choose jewelry that fits their anatomy and personal style. One of my favorite parts of the job is taking someone’s ideas and turning them into something that looks like it was always meant to be there.

What I’m probably best known for is the experience I create. My clients know they’re never going to feel rushed. I’ll spend as much time as they need answering questions, talking through jewelry options, explaining the healing process, or simply helping calm their nerves. I love educating people because I think when clients understand what’s happening, they feel so much more confident walking out the door.

What makes you happy?
Honestly, making other people feel comfortable is what makes me happiest. It sounds simple, but it’s the truth. I love seeing someone walk in nervous, unsure, or even a little scared, and then watching them leave smiling, laughing, and feeling more confident than when they came in.
