Today we’d like to introduce you to Blu Amante.
Hi Blu, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My first official runway journey started in 2006 in my hometown, Detroit, MI. Attending and graduating from John Casablanca Modeling school and several teachings and trainings got me to where I am today. Me and my first supporter, my mom, went through the scams, the tears, and the disappointments. But she always encouraged me to keep going. After a breakup, I felt like modeling wasn’t for me, but I couldn’t get away from it. I had a lot of friends and acquaintances that were designers or just in the industry that wanted me to be a part of their productions. I regained my confidence and started doing more shows and eventually getting seen. I realized that I wanted to travel with modeling but there was always a small fear of not being successful. In 2020 when Covid took place, a designer friend of mine in New York, Derrick Webb, wanted to do a campaign for his latest drop and asked me to be the face. I was super nervous but it turned out awesome and it was fun!
That’s when I knew this is what I wanted to do. That same year I started going to Atlanta to be a model in a fashion show at the Women’s Expo that was ran by Gina T Fashion at the time. For 2 years I did the show and I knew I wanted to move to Georgia. I moved in 2021 and hit the ground running. Fashion shows, photoshoots, short films, feature films, and consistent networking. But I couldn’t stay still. I found myself traveling to Illinois and networking with the St Louis community. I’ve only just begun but I love networking with the people here. I look forward to more traveling, networking, and achieving more goals in the future!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all! You really have to learn about yourself during this journey. What ur willing to do and what you won’t accept.
Learning that some people aren’t genuine in their actions towards you.
Learning that you will get so much rejection in this industry. You have to have that confidence and support as well.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve always been a creative. Dance, Modeling, Acting. Dance is always gonna be my first love. After i graduated high school i ended up becoming a background dancer for a local artist for a few years and I’m very grateful for that experience.
Acting is what I want to be creative with next. But I’m so shy in front of the camera especially when I have to talk.
Modeling is what has taken over so far.
What were you like growing up?
I was a character. I liked watching movies over and over again learning the lines, learning the songs, and noticing things in the background that nobody else sees.
I tried to give the friends I had support and encouraging words when I could. I did have low self-esteem for a long time but tried to hide it as much as possible.
I’m an only child so I always enjoyed my own company. I learned that’s the best way for me to recharge myself too.
