Daily Inspiration: Meet Brittney Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Washington.

Brittney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been passionate about people. That passion deepened during my undergraduate studies in sociology, where I discovered not only a love for understanding individuals but also a calling to serve my community.

Throughout college, I worked across a variety of social service settings, giving me the opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life. Each experience reinforced my belief that every person has a unique story worth hearing and understanding. Inspired to grow both personally and professionally, I went on to earn my master’s degree, further developing the knowledge and skills needed to make a meaningful impact.

That journey led me to Midtown Community Services, where I’ve proudly served for the past five years. I began as the Youth Director and now serve as the Director of Programs.

In my current role, I have the privilege of combining my passion for people with my commitment to creating positive change. I strive to ensure our programs are thoughtful, impactful, and responsive to the needs of our community. For me, the most rewarding part of this work is helping build opportunities that empower individuals and strengthen the community we serve.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey hasn’t always been easy, but I am deeply grateful for every step along the way. As a first-generation college student and graduate, I faced challenges that often felt unfamiliar and overwhelming. Each obstacle, however, became an opportunity to grow, persevere, and build resilience.

Through it all, the unwavering support of my family gave me the strength to keep moving forward. Their belief in me inspired me to keep reaching higher, even when the path was uncertain.

Today, that same encouragement fuels my passion for investing in others. I’m proud to inspire and support my own children, as well as the people I have the privilege of working with each day, helping them recognize their potential and believe that no dream is beyond their reach

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As the Director of Programs, I have the privilege of connecting with people from all walks of life while blending my passion for serving others with strategic leadership. My role allows me to ensure that every program we offer is intentional, impactful, and of the highest quality. I enjoy balancing the social side of the work—building relationships and understanding community needs—with the operational side, developing programs that create meaningful and lasting outcomes.

What matters most to you? Why?
Family, community, inclusion, and laughter are at the heart of everything I do. I believe that when people feel welcomed, valued, and connected, they thrive. Creating spaces where everyone belongs and where joy is shared isn’t just important to me—it’s one of the values that guides both my personal life and my work.
