Daily Inspiration: Meet Jade Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Lee.

Hi Jade, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. It was only my mom and my siblings. I lost my father a month before I was born due to gun violence. I moved to Saint Louis in 2017 to finish my bachelor’s degree at Harris-Stowe State University. I found out I was pregnant with my baby girl during my senior year. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor of science in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing in May 2020. While this was a very exciting and rewarding time in my life, it was also the worst. Two weeks after giving birth to my baby girl, I lost my mom to breast cancer. This was a very difficult time, but I had to be strong for my baby. A month later, I received an inheritance from my mom and knew this was the chance to create financial freedom and generational wealth for my daughter. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with the money for a while. Then one night a year later, I had a dream about owning my handbag brand, and that’s when I knew this was what called me to do. I instantly got up the next day, looked for manufacturers, and worked on my design. My vision came to life in August 2021, when Embellished Official was born. It took me about 7 months to get my business up and running, and March 25th was when I officially launched my first collection. The Love-Struck Collection.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Creating a brand from scratch is a challenge in itself. Honestly, I wish I could say it has been easy. Since I’m still in my beginner phase, I would say the biggest challenge for me now is creating brand awareness, figuring out who my actual target audience is, and competing with bigger, more established brands.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While in college and after graduating, I worked in finance. I had the opportunity my junior year in college to intern at Wells Fargo, which allowed me to secure my first job there after graduating. After a year at Wells Fargo, I had another opportunity to work at Accenture Federal Services as a Junior Analyst. I later left my position at Accenture after launching my business to become a full-time entrepreneur.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters the most to me is my family. Without the support of my family, I honestly don’t know where I would be today. They have always been my backbone and loved me unconditionally. Losing my mom was hard for me, making me realize that life is short. You should never take your family for granted; love them and spend time with them when possible. I’m working hard to create a better life for my family that will be filled with good times and memories.
