Today we’d like to introduce you to James Caposito
Hi James, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is James, I’m a performer based out of New York City. I was born in a little town called Putnam Valley New York, and started dance classes at age seven. I quickly realized I had a strong passion for dancing and being on stage, but it wasn’t until high school when I was cast as Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman that I realized I wanted to go into musical theatre. In 2017 I was accepted to SUNY University at Buffalo and double-majored in Music Theatre and Dance. Since then I’ve been a part of many lovely local Buffalo theatre experiences, my first out-of-town show this past summer with STAGES St. Louis!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an actor, there will always be obstacles and challenges between you and what you want to accomplish. Like most people in this industry, I’ve experienced plenty of setbacks; thought I really deserved things I didn’t get, made myself believe I wasn’t good enough for things, and so on. We all know this comes with the job, but sometimes the “no’s” still sting. I just try to remember that there are SO many fabulously talented people in this industry, and their success doesn’t make me any less talented. We all deserve our time to shine, but not all moments are ours and that’s okay!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Musical Theatre, so that means singing, dancing, and acting. My favorite styles of dance include jazz, theatre jazz, lyrical, ballet, and modern. I am so grateful I can perform for a living, there’s truly nothing else I’d rather be doing. I am super proud of the production of Newsies I was just a part of, STAGES was an absolute dream to work with. I also have been playing the trumpet since I was eight, and have gotten to incorporate it in a couple of past productions!
