Daily Inspiration: Meet Jennifer Nafziger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Nafziger.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey as a blogger and influencer started as somewhat of an accident. I’ve always enjoyed dressing up and am passionate about finding my own style. I like to dress in what suits my mood each day and celebrate every special occasion. Over the years, as a teacher, my clothes have become a conversation piece in my classroom. Students have always teased me that I never wear the same thing twice. It eventually became so much of a joke that they challenged me to post an Outfit of the Day on Instagram, so I started doing it just to prove them wrong. In a short time, Forty Fat and Fabulous was born.

I’ve spent much of my life on a body confidence journey. I want to love who I am, exactly as I am right now. I want to embrace my imperfections and live unapologetically. Most of all, I want to encourage others to do the same. That’s why I launched my blog. Though much of the blog is focused on Plus Size Style, I also write about travel, reading, and taking big chances. I’m not a well-connected or powerful influencer. But I hope that somehow in my words, ordinary people find the courage to embrace and love themselves fiercely, regardless of their age, size, gender, or social status.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s not always easy. My blog following is fairly modest and grows in small doses. It can be really discouraging at times. Would I love to have a huge following and a lot of brand partners that want to take a chance on me? Absolutely!!

Ultimately though, I try to stay focused on making meaningful changes. I do not receive swanky press kits and I’m not reposted by my favorite brands all the time. However, if I help a high school student have the courage to go to college, or help a 40-something Midwest mom feel brave enough to wear a swimsuit, or encourage a person who is down on themselves to keep going… then, what I am doing through the blog will have been worth it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
By trade, I am a middle and high school vocal music teacher. I have been at the same school, in rural Missouri, for 20 years. I love working with teenagers. My goal as a teacher is to help students discover who they are and learn to express themselves through the art of music. I want every student who passes through my classroom to feel seen, heard, and valued through what we do.

My blog is something that I engage in for myself. It helps me find a way to express my own creative energy and meet new people. In the years since my blog launched, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with many other Plus Size influencers. I’ve had the privilege of working with several St. Louis makers to promote their brands. (I am passionate about supporting local!) I have also helped with a few national campaigns, most recently serving as a brand ambassador for Arula (formerly A’Beautiful Soul).

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
For me, there aren’t really any big surprises. I am not a terribly guarded person. I strive to be authentic with the people around me and wear my heart on my sleeve. It’s the Enneagram 4 in me that has all the feelings of an open book.
