Today we’d like to introduce you to Kanesha Lewis
Hi Kanesha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up my mom had 5 girls and I probably was the shyest and the biggest tom boy of them all. Makeup was not a norm in my household. And like a true daddy’s girl my dad bought all of my clothes 2 sizes too big which didn’t help the persona that I grew to be okay with because it kept me hidden. I liked to keep to myself. I liked drawing to express myself. One day I decided I wanted to show up differently and I looked up how to do “hd eyebrows” on YouTube. From that moment on my life changed. I would to sit in front of YouTube and practice daily. I got so good at doing my own brows and makeup that I couldn’t hide anymore. People would soon inquire about hiring me to do their makeup. I invested in my newly discovered gift by taking professional classes and endless practicing. Suddenly, by the grace and favor of God my gifts begin to take me in rooms I never knew it would. I worked many fashion shows. My work was soon published with Nine PBS on TV. Este’ Lauder inside of Macy’s at the Galleria Mall reached out to sponsor my very first collaboration event as a makeup artist. I was blessed with many more opportunities to work with some of St. Louis’ talented artist such as Brandon Vaughn, Beeombi, The St. Louis Opera House and more. I serviced clients out of my home and traveled for a couple of years before I was presented an opportunity by God to work out of The Spa Den as the makeup artist. As I was working at the Spa Den I was also in school to get my esthetician license. In school I grew a love for discovering the mysteries of skin and how the art of skincare could heal and bring more confidence to the women and men I service. I continued to invest in myself, gifts, and education over the years and now service clients out of my very own business known as Majeste’ Luxe Spa. I offer beauty & wellness services that cater to every day women and men just like me and encourage them to never hide but to show up as their best self as often as they can.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth? No, as a mother and woman navigating everyday life the road will indefinitely be rocky. I’ve learned that it comes with the territory. To whom much is given much is required (Luke 12:48). You learn to adjust and keep going. As an entrepreneur who’s growing in all aspects of life with their businesses I encourage you to give yourself grace and keep pushing. Anything worth having is worth fighting for.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a makeup artist and licensed esthetician I specialize in getting people to see the beauty they already carry. I just amplify what’s already been given by God. I’m most proud of staying in my own lane. There are so many ways to express your art. I choose to express it in a way that’s true to myself and my beliefs that’s what sets me apart.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
God gets the glory for giving me the gifts and talents He’s placed on my life to service myself and many others. He’s sent many people into my life that has encouraged me and helped to see the gifts He gave me. One of those many people would be Daniesha Graham owner of The Spa Den. When I was working out of my home she and her mother would come to get serviced and offer for me a space to work out of her very own Spa. At the time I had little faith in being able to transition into a spa or salon setting. They kept their faith and returned to nudge me on. Soon I transitioned and haven’t looked back since. I’ve been blessed to learn from Daniesha and work out of her space. It was a pivotal point in my career. Last but not least everyone that saw something special in me and decided to root for me and support me along this journey in any kind of way I’m sending a huge thank you.
