Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Gruen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My musical journey began during the pandemic of 2020 actually. While taking a semester from college courses, I decided to begin producing my first album of songs I’d written at the time.
Soon enough, from May 2020 to February 2021, I went from 1 show per month to 4-6, sometimes even 11 or 12 shows a week.
Eventually I wound up in the position in which I’m at today: After 6 years of this musical journey full-time, I have been able to travel 48 states & 28 countries worldwide touring, releasing multiple studio albums, each of better quality.
Solo & with my band alike I have opened stages for world-touring top 40 acts such as Bailey Zimmerman and Ernest at the Stifel Theater in 2024, as a prize for placing in the top 3 bands for the final Boots at Busch Stadium run in St. Louis. I have also shared the stage with local legends such as NBC’s The Voice Runner-Up & Opry Performer Ruby Leigh, as well as blues virtusoso Jeremiah Johnson.
With over 100k streams across all streaming platforms, I’ve been featured for numerous live TV Performances, FM Stations nationwide, as well as local & national publications nationwide.
My last full live album was cut complimentarily by Spotify at their Nashville, TN Studio “Notable”, and I’ve been featured for showcases at venues such as the Bluebird Cafe Nashville, TN, The Blueberry Hill Duck Room STL, The Halo Bar, and last but not least, the legendary Church Studio in Tulsa, OK, where I’m currently recording two of my next 3 album releases which will be coming soon over the course of the next year!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My greatest struggles have been eclipsed by my successes. Some of these include instances of envious gatekeepers.
When I first started my musical journey, hustling a true musical income from the ground up was a feat of pure grit & making a definitive sound from scratch: Nothing but a guitar, a foot tambourine and a suitcase kickdrum in the beginning!
