Daily Inspiration: Meet Morgan Cameron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Cameron.

Hi Morgan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
About ten years ago, I retired from being a professional dancer with The Big Muddy Dance Company (now St. Louis Dance Theatre), due to a back condition. A friend of mine dragged me to a yoga class insisting that I would enjoy it. I had always thought of yoga as too laid back and “easy” for my body and its capabilities due to dance, but this hot yoga class with arm balances and inversions was challenging in all the right ways and I was hooked! Zoom forward to the present and I now teach multiple yoga classes a week at different studios, operate my own space with yoga offerings (Noteworthy Cafe & Culture), and am working on an online program to help newly certified yoga teachers move from trainees to confident teachers. I specialize in taking students from a place of doubt and insecurity that they and their bodies are capable of certain things, – whether it’s a stretch in their first yoga class, a complicated handstand transition, or teaching their first public yoga class – to a place of amazement and recognition that they are indeed capable of all sorts of things, on and off the mat.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Moving from getting my yoga teaching certification into actually teaching yoga was a big hurdle. I kept saying “I wish I could just teach 100 yoga classes before I have to teach my first class!” because I knew comfort and confidence would come with time, but being in that initial stage felt so uncomfortable and it felt like I was all alone trying to “level-up.” Fortunately, I came across an online yoga platform that brought me into contact (and deep friendship!) with a number of very experienced yoga teachers from all over the world. I was able to turn to these friends for advice and camaraderie and gain the confidence to move outside the box I had placed around myself as an inexperienced teacher who no one would want to learn from.

How do you think about happiness?
I get a tremendous amount of joy from being able to take students from a mindset of belief that they cannot do something to a place of possibility or success accomplishing that thing. These things are usually a balance or transition that they believe is out of their league and the moments of success can be so powerful that they overflow into the students’ lives and they begin to wonder about other stories they have about what they are and are not capable of. Longterm, it’s incredibly rewarding to watch someone’s mind shift and to see their lives change for the better as a result.
