Today we’d like to introduce you to Ori Tala.
Ori, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember. As a child, I experienced the world as both a seer and a storyteller, expressing myself through visual art, performance, poetry, music, and writing. Creating wasn’t just something I loved—it became the language that helped me understand myself, my imagination, and the world around me.
Over time, that creative path became deeply intertwined with my spiritual practice. About seven years ago, I began studying tarot and oracle cards and later became attuned to Usui Reiki, an ancient Japanese energy healing practice centered on balancing the chakras. Those experiences transformed the way I approach art. Rather than separating creativity and spirituality, I allow them to inform one another through ritual, intuition, and deep listening.
Today, my work weaves together visual art, storytelling, music, performance, and healing practices. Whether I’m creating artwork, writing lyrics, offering a reading, or facilitating a shared experience, my hope is to invite people into a space of remembrance, transformation, curiosity, and play. More than anything, this journey has become one of liberation—for myself, for my lineage, and for the communities I create alongside. For that, I’m deeply grateful to my ancestors, my spirit guides, and everyone who has walked this path with me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The journey has been full of unexpected turns, detours, and pit stops—some that challenged me deeply and others that became unexpected blessings. Creative and spiritual work asks you to continually shed old versions of yourself, and for me that has meant learning to trust my intuition even when fear, doubt, or uncertainty tried to speak louder.
Some of my greatest struggles weren’t just external—they were emotional and internal. There were seasons when I questioned my voice, my purpose, and whether I was enough. Learning to believe in myself has been one of the hardest and most transformative parts of my journey.
As a Black, genderqueer artist, I’ve also navigated the realities of discrimination, bullying, and feeling like I had to fight for space simply to exist authentically. Those experiences shaped me, but they don’t define me. Instead, they’ve become part of the compassion and depth I bring to my work.
Every relationship, every setback, and every heartbreak has taught me something. Looking back, I’m grateful not only for the joyful moments but also for the painful ones. They helped me become more grounded, more resilient, and more committed to creating work that invites healing, transformation, and genuine connection.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I describe myself as a spirit artist, oracle, and multidisciplinary storyteller. My opening and introduction of myself in collective readings on online platforms is ‘I’m Ori, UR (your) local and multiverse fae, as my work exists between worlds—bridging the seen and unseen through visual art, music, performance, writing, and spiritual practice. While that may sound ethereal, it’s also deeply human. At its core, my work is about helping people remember who they are, reconnect with themselves, and imagine new possibilities for their lives.
As a visual storyteller, I create from my heart while drawing inspiration from dreams, ancestral memory, the cosmos, and the ways our lives mirror the rhythms of nature and the stars. My artwork often honors the people and histories that have shaped me, centering Black femme representation, Afro-diasporic and Indigenous histories, cultural remembrance, and ancestral revival.
Alongside my creative practice, I offer tarot and oracle readings as spaces for reflection, clarity, and healing. Whether someone is navigating relationships, career changes, grief, or personal transformation, I see these sessions as collaborative conversations that help people reconnect with their own intuition rather than telling them what their future should be.
What I’m most proud of is allowing all of my gifts to exist together instead of forcing myself into one category. I’m a visual artist, musician, performer, writer, and spiritual practitioner, and each practice strengthens the others. I believe creativity can awaken collective consciousness, inspire healing, and remind us that we’re all connected. It is a responsibility I carry with deep gratitude, and one I hope to continue growing for years to come.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think we’re entering a time where people are seeking experiences that feel more authentic, embodied, and rooted in genuine connection. While technology and AI will continue to reshape the creative landscape, I believe there will also be a growing desire for art, storytelling, and spiritual practices that invite people to slow down, gather in community, and reconnect with themselves and one another.
I see more artists embracing multidisciplinary practices instead of fitting into one category. The lines between music, visual art, film, wellness, education, and spiritual exploration are already beginning to blur, and I think that will continue over the next decade.
That vision has influenced my own work as well. Over the past year I’ve been intentionally rebranding my practice to focus more on creative collaborations, spiritual retreats, immersive art experiences, and ancestral storytelling on a global scale. I’m creating from a place of greater vulnerability, transparency, and sacred intention.
You’ll also be seeing much more of me online through vlogs, a podcast, music, written works, oracle decks, and collaborative projects with artists across different disciplines. My hope is to build meaningful spaces—both in person and online—where creativity becomes a catalyst for healing, curiosity, and collective imagination. I’m excited to see where this next chapter leads.
