Daily Inspiration: Meet Priska Lay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priska Lay.

Priska, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started combat sports at 35 years old with no experience. Took my first fight in 2019 & debuted with a split decision loss but got a Fight of the Night award. This set the pace for my own performance standards. I have won a kickboxing belt, been 3x State BJJ Medalist & traveled out of state to compete with the best. I have fought across multiple rule sets including boxing, mma & kickboxing. My goals are to become a World Champion with St. Charles MMA.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m 42 year old Puerto Rican woman in a male dominated sports so the journey has been insanely difficult. I’ve had to gym hop several times when the unfair mistreatment became too much for me to handle. I persevered through male teammates sexual harassment, coaches taking your money but never giving you the sessions you paid for, being stuck on the sidelines from coaches holding you back and the list goes on & on. I’m proud of my own resilience.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a mma fighter. What sets me apart is my work ethic & my ability to figure it all out. I specialize in striking & grappling.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My perseverance to keep putting in the work despite no guarantees.
