Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Brekrus
Hi Rachael, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always loved trying new restaurants and bars throughout the city and I used to post pictures of my cocktails on my Instagram. After doing this a lot I decided to create an account dedicated to just that, Drinking in STL. My page isn’t just cocktails though, it’s also restaurants, events, coffee, smoothies, ice cream, really anything that I think people will enjoy! Over the last couple of years I have gotten to do so many fun collaborations and meet some amazing people; I still LOVE getting to try new places and share why they are each great!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say the biggest struggle communicating to my audience. Sometimes I’ll visit an establishment and have the best experience, but then the post I make about it doesn’t do as well as I’d hoped, which can be frustrating.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While I love going places and sharing my experiences, my real job and passion is teaching. I teach math, have amazing students and coworkers, and really love my job! Being a teacher means I have summers off which is when I most enjoy touring my own city.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next few years I would love to do more collaborations and broaden my audience. I really enjoy getting to collaborate on events and could definitely see myself doing more of that in the future. Overall my page and my experience are pretty new, so I feel really grateful for any opportunity that comes my way!
