Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Anderson.
Hi Shelby, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
My entrepreneurial journey began in 2014. I was working as a beauty advisor for Estée Lauder, and I was so inspired from my very first day. My passion began in cosmetics and makeup artistry, and I found my niche and calling in skincare. After working as an advisor and freelance artist for a year, I enrolled in Esthetics school when I was 22 in 2015. My training took about 16 months total as I was working full time. When I completed Esthetics school in September 2016, I was no longer at Lauder but working as an advisor at Bare Minerals. I was so eager to begin my Esthetics career and very excited. I worked my way up to being a manager, and in 2017, I started offering facial services from my mother’s living room. I did this for 8 months and built up my clientele. I had no idea I would become that busy, but I loved it. My job became a distraction that was compensating me. In August 2018, I put my notice in at Bare because I finally felt ready to spread my wings and work 100% for myself. Bare ended up terminating me after I put my notice in, and I have not looked back since. It has been a little over 4 years, and I now have my private suite in Clayton; I have over 300 amazing clients in my rotation, and I have started my skincare line Eclipse is set to launch this Holiday season! My goal is Christmas Day. Nursing school will resume next year! I am stepping into teaching courses and sharing my skills so other Estheticians can become more confident and successful in their field. My first class will be in December.
I specialize in corrective and anti-aging care and have made it my sole mission to provide the best service while instilling confidence in every single one of my clients. I feel so blessed to be in this position and am just starting. At this time, my books are full weeks in advance, but I am accepting virtual consults. Inquiries for consults can be sent to email@example.com.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! Things sometimes go differently than planned when you embark on such a journey, making it much more worth it. Some of the struggles I faced was imposter syndrome. Some weeks I would have 2-3 facials, which can be very discouraging, but this is challenging. It takes dedication and consistency, and you have to have faith. Staying consistent and being knowledgeable in your craft will take you so so far. Ignoring any negative outside forces that try to slander your name and remembering why you started will keep you going. Another issue I faced was becoming my mother’s sole caregiver when she became terminally ill in 2020. Being a caregiver while also running your own business has been a bumpy road. Several ups and downs, but my business is still standing stronger than ever. My clients have become my family and my village throughout this transition.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known for my corrective care treatments for managing acne conditions. I specialize in customized facial treatments, including Dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, Microneedling, Nano Needling, Chemical peels, Herbal peels, Lymphatic drainage, and pressure point massage for pain. I take pride in helping my clients clear their skin so they can put their best face forward to the world. Knowing I am making such an impact is an excellent and warm feeling.
Please talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy.
Any form of self-care makes my soul happy! I learned that you could not pour from an empty cup, so it’s essential to take care of yourself while taking care of others. My most common form of self-care is fitness and working out. It has made me stronger both physically and mentally.
