Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie King.
Hi Stephanie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Stephanie King. I am from Gary, Indiana, and I am a local makeup artist. My love for makeup started around the age 4 when my Nana (Andrea James) allowed me to play in her makeup bag one Saturday afternoon. The pigment of the red lipstick, the application, and the finished result set my soul ablaze, and I have been hooked ever since. In 2014, I began working for a restaurant chain that required all servers to wear makeup, and I considered at that time my moment to shine! Since then, I have immersed myself in starting my own artistry company. In July 2022, my Nana passed, and I carried out her final face for her funeral. I was honored to take on that task for her. In August of 2023, after much prayer, I launched Nana’s Glam Castle! I specialize in Natural faces with a pop of glam! Natural beauty is key; everyone loves a little bit of sass, just like my Nana!
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A major struggle in the makeup business is matching skin pigmentation. As a woman of color, finding your correct foundation or concealer color can be a challenge. Makeup was made for us only some time ago, and now that the industry has skyrocketed, we have much better representation! Also, not all faces are the same shape. Some women have rounder cheeks versus those with very strong and noticeable cheekbones. Those beautiful natural features can now come to life with a little contouring, blush, and bronzer!
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Makeup artist! I love the artistry and creativity of makeup! I specialize in natural faces with a pop of glam! I enjoy accentuating natural beauty with beautiful eyes and products that blend beautifully into natural skin! I am most proud of the inspiration my Nana gave me. She always stayed in the house with her eyebrows and her lipstick. My proudest moment was doing her makeup for her funeral. It was only right the woman who introduced me to glam should receive her final glam from me!
How do you think about luck?
My luck has come directly from My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Doors like this opportunity have been opened from prayer and faith the size of a mustard seed!
