Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Johnson.
Hi Tiffany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My passion for cosmetology began back in elementary school. My mom loved doing my hair in different styles before I headed off to class, and my aunt would always gift me fun hair accessories and lip gloss. Those early moments sparked something in me.
In high school, I was enrolled in a tech program for dentistry, but you’d usually find me in the X-ray room styling someone’s hair or doing their makeup. I completed the program, but after a few internships and some college classes, it became clear that dentistry wasn’t where my heart was.
During my sophomore year of college, I decided to take a leap and enrolled at Paul Mitchell. It was a big step, but it turned out to be the right one. I found my path. Networking came naturally, and I soaked up everything I could. I learned so much and never looked back.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m grateful for the many transitions after graduating. I started my career at Blu A Color Salon. As a full-service salon where I really honed my styling skills and regularly stepped in for makeup applications as needed. I still keep in touch with Charles and Nicole as they’ve truly shaped my habits as a stylist. I spent three years there before moving on to a salon and spa that catered to children. It was during that time I realized how much I loved blowouts, styling, and doing makeup.
From there, I joined a blowout bar and became more involved in weddings, which is where my love for bridal work really took off. Around the same time, I began freelancing during the pandemic, taking on bridal clients independently while working some side jobs (there’s no shame in the side hustles). That experience gave me a new level of creative freedom and confidence in my craft. I’ve worked along side many bridal and production companies since then.
Later on, I worked at Locke Hair in Webster Groves, where I discovered my passion for lived-in hair color. That season of my career helped me grow both technically and creatively. I feel I found my “voice” as a stylist within their space. Lacey and Amanda have been great to work along side with and have encouraged me to keep growing towards creating low maintenance looks behind the chair.
Then, during the winter of 2024, Kristen from Thirteenth and Washington reached out for a bridal artist and lived in hair colorist and the timing felt right. I transitioned into their space and found myself surrounded by a community that aligned beautifully with my vision. It’s been an incredible next chapter in my journey behind the chair.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a hairstylist and makeup artist with a decade of experience specializing in bridal beauty, lived-in color, and elevated, effortless styling. My work blends artistry with intention, creating timeless looks that feel as luxurious as they are personal. Whether I’m working with a bride on the most important day of her life or curating a custom color experience in the salon, my goal is always the same: to enhance natural beauty in a way that feels refined, radiant, and uniquely you.
What sets me apart is the experience I offer. From the calm, professional energy I bring to every wedding morning, to the thoughtful details woven into every appointment. I’m proud to serve my clients at Thirteenth and Washington, a space that aligns beautifully with the elevated yet welcoming aesthetic I’ve built my brand around.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
St. Louis is very up and coming. We’re constantly growing and developing businesses Downtown which is where my salon is based out of. I love the sense of community and the history here. I’m hopeful that this city will continue to grow in the right direction and we can support the new businesses that are coming downtown. I hate the negative narrative people may have about downtown. It’s always popping here.
