We recently had the chance to connect with Dr. Sara Strohmeyer and have shared our conversation below.
Sara, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now is absolute organized chaos. With 4 kids aged 7-3, we are in the thick of soon to be pre-school, kindergarten, and 1st grade. My days consist of getting them to their schools, picking them back up, and getting the older two to hockey and competitive dance. When I’m not immersed in kid-life, I’m dedicating my time to helping other moms- whether that’s through chiropractic adjustments for them, their family, connecting them with resources, collaborating with other professionals- whatever is going to make their lives less stressful and overwhelming.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Dr. Sara Strohmeyer, chiropractor and owner of Transcendent Chiropractic. I specialize in women and pediatric care, holding certifications in Webster Technique for pregnant women, perinatal chiropractic care, pediatric chiropractic care, and acupuncture. I founded STL Nurture Collective with the mission of bringing practitioners and resources together to help women and kids in South City St. Louis. I am a mom of four kids- Irish twins (7 year old and 6 year old) and fraternal twins (3 years old). As I dove deeper into postpartum and having more kids, I realized having a village, support and resources was imperative to thriving in motherhood. I have made it my mission to help other moms thrive as well.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I created this idea in my head that I needed to be perfect to be seen. I needed validation for my successes and if I didn’t have them, then they weren’t good enough or big enough. Since becoming a mother, feeling that unconditional love for my children and by my children, I realize that I am seen. I am perfect in their eyes. All they want is my best effort to be present for them. I carry this through to my work with moms. Every visit to the office, I make sure each and every person is seen and appreciated for who they are.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
One of my most defining moments is when my husband told me to “go for it.” I was drowning and losing myself in different chiropractic jobs, trying to fit the mold they wanted. When I came home one night and talked to Steve, he said “figure out what you need to do to start your business and go for it.” Since then, my business has continued to evolved, my mission bigger than ever. Without that conversation, without him truly hearing me, I wouldn’t be living out my dream.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am 1000000% committed to changing how we view postpartum care. I’m tired of the 6 week “you’re good- see you next year!” mentality. We’re expected to go through this huge journey of conception, pregnancy, labor, and delivery just to be handed a baby and left to our own devices. In this era, our support village has basically diminished to nonexistent. Stress levels are sky high. Moms are fading into the background, being taught to get your body back and putting your kid first means you as a person no longer exist. Postpartum care is beyond your first 6 weeks, months, a year. Postpartum care evolves as time goes on, and it is my mission to be there for moms- provide resources, care, collaboration- as their needs change.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I LOVE what I do. I am excited to go to the office every single day. I love seeing each and every member- helping them with whatever they’ve got going on that day. I have created real relationships with each person. I know their kids, their parents, the names of their pets, what they like to do on Saturday nights. My mission to make each and every person to feel cared for and seen is felt in every single visit. Each person likes to come in the office consistently not because I fix their back or neck pain, which I do, but because their consistent care, their relationship with me, makes them feel like they matter and what they do matters. The office is always authentic, full of laughter, and fun.
