We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ethan Healey. Check out our conversation below.
Ethan, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
Chasing? I wouldn’t say I am chasing anything per say. I think when it comes down to it really with writing songs, for me at least is I’m just always trying to have it be whatever comes most naturally. People know when you’re when you’re full of it anyway, I know I can tell. So if i’m chasing anything I guess its a consistent level of honesty my songs.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Yeah so my names Ethan Healey, I release music under the name Scott Maison. I’ve been writing & producing songs for about 4 years now just in my bedroom & yeah its just been quite the times. As of right now I just put out two new singles “Ashes” & “Little Miss Sunshine”. About to release an EP called “Valley Days” its about just growing up & how I grew up and all those sorts of things. Coming of age really I suppose. Its 5 songs, really looking forward to it though. Should be out sometime in August this year
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Well growing up you know I got 6 brothers & 2 sisters we didn’t really have a lot. I was right in the middle so I was just always kind of by myself a lot. I used to think when I was younger a lot, that something bad was really gonna happen, I wasn’t sure what, but I would find myself rushing around trying to prepare myself for these like completely made up scenarios in my head to try & find some relief.
Growing up I kinda learned now is that you really can’t prepare for anything. Your best bet well for me at least, is just do what you can and not really worry too much about anything else. Thats what gives me peace these days, not rushing just doing whats needed. Thats all there is to it you know
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Just relax I think. There will be times good times ahead just be patient really, it’ll come & be just fine.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I suppose it would depend on who you ask but I think the majority would say a good amount of openness. I like to be around people I can spitball in front of or just share a little idea or just say whatever is on my mind and not really feel anyway about it. I’m really fortunate to have friends like that because I think as a creative person having that foundation really opens a lot of windows. The more windows, the more fresh air.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What light inside you have you been dimming?
You know, it’s funny because I used to think being romantic or like in love was the most cringe just worst corny thing in the world so I kind of put that away a bit. But you know after seeing all the things in the news these past few years, wars, sexism, mass genocide you name it, I think it messed up the way I saw things a bit.
I really think that love is something that is here & we should give to each other all that we can especially now. I like what McCartney said on Abbey Road “The love you take is equal to the love you make”. That’s it right there.
