Hi Amya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been doing nails since April of 2020. It all started in my bedroom (during the pandemic) when I was 14 and everything grew from there. In April of 2022 I expanded to lashes and that has opened doors for me I didn’t think were possible. Since the beginning, I have serviced over 2,000 people, done celebrity clients such as Coi Leray and reached over a million engagements with my social media audiences. It has not been easy but I have been determined to make a name for myself FROM myself.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No roads are smooth, especially being a Kansas City native. Starting off so young presented its own challenges. People can sense innocence and inexperience and WILL try to take advantage of that. I had my fair share of people questioning my pricing, trying not to pay and in a few circumstances not paying as well as social media scrutiny, severe criticism and facing that fact that some people only stick around because what you may provide for them. I’ve lost friends and made new ones. I’ve moved and had to close off half of my services. For a period I had no location and could only travel to clients. But I’ve learned and expanded in ways that could not have been possible without those struggles.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about By, Amya ?
I am a licensed luxury service provider specializing in acrylic nails, toe reconstructions and volume lashes. Apart from being licensed and having 6+ years of experience under my belt what sets me apart the most is attention to quality and retention. My services take longer because in taking my time I take all necessary steps to provide not only what it is you are paying for but an experience tailored to what you need and for your extensions to LAST. Most importantly aside from quality products and services as well as superior retention I prioritize the natural health of my clients. Whether you are receiving lash extensions or nail extensions my main concern is and will always be growing and enhancing what you arrive with.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I had no help creating this business, conjuring up what little bit I made at 14 with my first paycheck I invested in myself. Unfortunately, I don’t have family to support me finically and being from a single parent household my mom made it clear that whatever I spent was on me. However I must say, mental and physical support will always outweigh the financial. That’s not to say 14 year old me would not of loved the support because I definitely would’ve but my mom poured into me mentally in ways that money could never. There were times I laid in my mom’s bed crying and begging for her to tell me it was okay to give up and yet she never did, she actually did the opposite telling me “failure is never an option”. My younger brother and sister motivated me in ways that looking back I didn’t even know, they would come in my room and sit with me through multiple clients. Watching me work but also observing hard work, passion, resilience and purpose everyday days at end. As I’ve grown my loyal clients have grown with me, I joke with a few that have stayed down from a wooden chair to a plush double wide one. From my bedroom ceiling falling in to renovating my own suite I’ve had support for years from a select few and that deserves its own credit.
