Exploring Life & Business with Angela Blue of JustCurls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Blue.

Hi Angela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My sister and I were raised in Peabodys which is prominently known as the hood and overall a dangerous place in STL. Due to unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances, Diamond and I left home when I was 15 and she was 17 years old. For about 2 or 3 years my sister and I were homeless and we had to jump from house to house for a while.

In 2020, when Covid began, our living conditions started to worsen and it came to the point of a drive-by taking place at the home where we were residing. Because of what took place, we began living with our brother and sister-in-law a couple of days out of the week.

During that time we started Justcurls to focus on the good and build a future for ourselves and leave something behind. Diamond loves all things natural hair and I love encouraging others. We brought both passions together and created Justcurls.

JustCurls is a platform that encourages black women to love and embrace their natural hair by giving tips, sharing our stories, and providing organic natural hair products. We are grateful for where we are today, we want to inspire and give back, have an impact on the world, and help women learn to love and embrace a God-given gift, their hair.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When we first began Justcurls, it was not a smooth road.

We started Justcurls when we were homeless and we were on a zero-dollar budget but even in the midst of the chaos, God continually seemed to provide for us. Recently, we faced some unforeseen life changes in our lives.

Because of this, we decided to take a temporary break from Justcurls to focus on our mental health, and peace, and to take the time to regroup. After a much-needed break, we are back and better and we are determined to conquer the world.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Justcurls is a platform that encourages black women to love and embrace their natural hair by giving tips, sharing our stories, and providing organic natural hair products.

We have a blog where women are able to share their natural hair journey, all while encouraging others through their experiences. Justcurls has ambassadors that provide tips, words of encouragement, natural hair tutorials, and mainly engage with our Curly Cuties.

We also provide natural hair products as well! We recently came out with a moisturizing bundle that contains hair butter and hair growth oil. We additionally have two other hair products, a lavender split end treatment, and alopecia oil.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
We love using Insta-shot, Canva, premiere rush, and Lightroom + reaching different ways to grow our business!!
