Exploring Life & Business with Brittany Jacobson of Radiant Awakening Psychotherapy & Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Jacobson.

Hi Brittany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From an early age, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to alleviating suffering and helping people find hope when they feel stuck or alone. That desire ultimately led me to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology.

During my doctoral training, one of my first clinical experiences involved conducting research with individuals who had been hospitalized after a suicide attempt. The focus was identifying underlying factors that contributed to these attempts in order to ultimately improve suicide prevention efforts. Through that work, I saw how frequently post-traumatic stress symptoms were part of the picture, which sparked a deeper interest in understanding trauma and how to treat it effectively.

That interest shaped my clinical training and led me to specialize in trauma treatment at the Department of Veterans Affairs. I spent more than a decade working with veterans, an experience that deeply influenced my approach to care and reinforced my belief in people’s capacity to heal, even after profoundly difficult experiences.

In March 2026, I began a new chapter by opening Radiant Awakening Psychotherapy & Wellness in St. Louis. I wanted to create a practice where I could bring together my experience in trauma treatment with an integrative approach that incorporates modalities such as hypnotherapy and mindfulness. My goal is to help people move beyond the ways past experiences may still be affecting them, reconnect with themselves, and build lives that feel more peaceful, free, and empowered.

In many ways, opening my practice feels like a natural continuation of what inspired me from the beginning: helping people find hope when they cannot yet see a way forward.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think some of the most meaningful growth comes from navigating the parts of a journey that challenge you. Pursuing a doctorate in clinical psychology requires years of dedication, and working in mental health means showing up for people during some of the most painful and vulnerable moments of their lives. That work is deeply meaningful to me, and it also requires emotional energy and continued self-improvement to ensure I’m showing up as the best possible therapist for my clients.

During my more than 10 years working with veterans, I also learned that providing effective care sometimes means advocating for change within systems that are still evolving. I cared deeply about improving access to trauma-informed treatment, expanding holistic care, and supporting survivors of military sexual trauma. That advocacy could be challenging, particularly when confronting misconceptions about sexual assault or working to ensure that survivors’ experiences were understood and taken seriously, regardless of their gender. Those experiences reinforced for me how important it is to create spaces where people feel heard, respected, and safe enough to begin their healing process.

Starting my own practice has brought a different kind of challenge in stepping away from the familiarity of an established organization and building something of my own. There is an inherent risk and uncertainty to starting your own business, but I keep returning to the importance of trusting myself and knowing that I’m moving in a direction that feels true to who I am and the kind of care I want to provide.

Ultimately, these challenges have helped clarify the kind of psychologist I want to be and the kind of practice I want to create. With Radiant Awakening, I have the opportunity to offer integrative, trauma-informed care that reflects my values and meets people fully with compassion and patience. For me, the goal has been to keep learning, stay grounded in what matters, and use what I’ve learned along the way to help others move toward greater freedom, healing, and hope.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Radiant Awakening Psychotherapy & Wellness?
Radiant Awakening Psychotherapy & Wellness is my private practice where I help adults heal from trauma, reconnect with themselves, and build lives that feel more peaceful, free, and empowered. I specialize in trauma and PTSD, particularly interpersonal trauma, including sexual trauma, emotional abuse, and intimate partner violence, as well as military trauma. I also provide sex therapy, couples therapy, hypnotherapy, and integrative mind-body approaches to healing. I offer in-person therapy in St. Louis, Missouri and telehealth therapy for clients in over 40 states.

What sets my practice apart is my commitment to seeing the whole person rather than approaching healing through just one lens. Trauma can affect so many areas of life, from relationships and self-esteem to sexuality, physical tension, and the body’s ongoing sense of threat. Yet people sometimes find that certain parts of their experience remain unaddressed because a provider specializes in only one approach or doesn’t feel equipped to explore a particular concern. My approach remains focused on addressing each aspect of life that holds clients back from becoming the most happy, healthy versions of themselves.

To do this, I utilize evidence-based treatments and bring together traditional psychotherapy with holistic mind-body approaches, including hypnotherapy and mindfulness and meditation practices, tailoring treatment to each person’s needs. My goal is to offer a more comprehensive approach to healing that addresses the interconnected effects of trauma and supports meaningful, lasting change.

Just as important as the approaches I use is the experience clients have in therapy. I want clients to feel comfortable being themselves in therapy, including talking about things they may have never felt comfortable sharing elsewhere. My style is down-to-earth, compassionate, and direct. I’m happy to offer practical feedback when it’s helpful, ask difficult but illuminating questions, and bring some humor into the room when the moment calls for it. Therapy can involve difficult conversations, but it can also be a place where you feel understood, let your guard down, and figure things out without feeling like you have to have it all together.

I’m proud that the Radiant Awakening brand reflects these values. To me, the name represents the possibility of emerging from the darkness of painful experiences to see the beauty and possibilities in life again, while rediscovering the parts of yourself you may have lost touch with along the way. My mission is to instill hope and help people unburden themselves from the past so they can live more peaceful, free, and empowered lives.
