Exploring Life & Business with Carrie Hogg of Sisterhood Style

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Hogg.

Hi Carrie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first had the idea of starting an online women’s boutique when I noticed that I was shopping primarily at boutiques myself! My girlfriend Ashley and I would swap boutique recommendations and our newest finds. We would chat about pain points too, like this boutique takes forever to ship things or this boutique isn’t quite the style I’m looking for. I have my degree in Fashion Merchandising, so it just seemed like the perfect fit to start our own boutique. But we knew we wanted to address those pain points-crazy fast shipping and items that matched our aesthetic style, but also our lifestyle as mothers.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha! Well, we launched our boutique March 1st, 2020, and the world turned upside down two weeks later! Our vendors and supply chain completely shut down, and with Ashley & I living in two separate states (Missouri & Illinois), we weren’t able to even get together for quite a while. Like everyone, we shifted, pivoted and tried to address our customers where they were. Joggers and graphic tees were very popular!

As you know, we’re big fans of Sisterhood Style. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our mission is to be a mom’s first stop for clothing and accessories. We offer fast shipping, practical everyday clothing as well as options for date night, wedding guest dresses, workwear, etc., all at an affordable price point. The biggest point we hope to get across is that we outfit moms best because we are moms! We are both mothers of four children with busy lives, but we know that women want to feel beautiful, put together and be reminded that they are more than “just” moms.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I wholeheartedly believe in calculated risks! It was of course a big risk to start a boutique, but it also was well thought out with a plan in place. We technically started the business in September 2019, got our ducks in a row before launching the website March 1, 2020. And to this day, I take calculated risks with everything I decide to put in the boutique. It has worked well so far!
