Exploring Life & Business with Hayley Tomazic of Curated Properties

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayley Tomazic.

Hi Hayley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My real estate career began as a child watching my father build his homebuilding business. I loved tagging along to the title companies, and for fun would drag my mother to display homes on weekends.

Needless to say, real estate was in my blood. I went to the University of Dayton where I majored in Entrepreneurship and Marketing, creating a great foundation for my future career. My first job out of college was selling new homes for a homebuilder in Dayton, Ohio, and being St. Louis born and raised, I came back home three years later.

I started my company in 2007 with the intent to renovate homes and sell them. The real estate market had other plans, (the housing crash of 2008) and I quickly pivoted to utilizing my real estate license and skills to help friends and family. Along the way, I was married, had two amazing children, and continued to grow my business as a work-at-home mom.

While helping buyers and sellers in their real estate transactions, I actively invest in real estate myself and have continued to renovate homes, build a rental portfolio and consult for homebuilders on the side. In 2020, I rebranded my business to Curated Properties which embodies my business in several ways. 1.) We provide our clients with an experience curated for them. Everyone has different needs and goals in real estate and we strive to consistently deliver. 2.) We are thoughtful about the homes we list and sell.

Our listings and sold properties are curated by professionals who have the end goal of maximizing the seller’s profitability and the buyer’s investment. 3.) We have goals of expanding into different sectors in the real estate industry. Real estate and design go hand in hand which is why are excited to launch Curated Interiors later this year.

We are also currently building a vacation rental property in Innsbrook Resort which will be the Curated Treehouse available in 2023.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish I could say it has been smooth, but there have definitely been struggles, and I know there will continue to be more along the way. The bigger my business has grown, the bigger the struggles.

One thing I have learned is that if I accept there will always be a problem, it is much easier to be at peace and overcome the obstacles. In my early career, the biggest struggle was finding the business. As my business grew, the struggle was finding the time.

As I added people to my business to allow for leverage, my biggest struggle was learning to manage and lead those people. Luckily, I love to problem solve and find it fun and rewarding to find solutions for my struggles along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Curated Properties is a multi-faceted real estate company. We have a team of real estate agents licensed with Keller Williams that provide specialized service to clients looking to buy, sell and invest.

We also have an arm of real estate development that’s projects include new construction, purchasing properties for renovation and sale, and single-family home rentals.

We are excited to expand our service this year into interior decor, vacation rentals, and a partnership with Meyer Homes for more new construction sales.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I love new opportunities.

So in that sense, I love the idea of new risks that can bring new rewards.

I’ve learned to take calculated risks by working with my inner circle of mentors, advisors, and my very analytical husband to take risks that I feel are within a reasonable level.
