After retiring, I found myself doing home maintenance for my mother in law and grand mother. Thy routinely told me that there simply wasn’t anyone in the are that they could rely on for handyman services. After doing a market analysis, I found that there indeed was a need. So I began Dads Handyman Service of Alton.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Setting up the business With the State of Illinois, getting business insurance and implementing a sound marketing plan cost more than I would have thought. But with Facebook, google, and friends the business has taken off nicely. Within just few months I am booking a week out and already seeing repeat customers.
I found that designing the company properly has helped to make sure it would run smooth. From establishing a website, a company email and phone number as well as printing business cards and purchasing logo shirts, I have been able to ensure my customers have a positive initial opinion. Then by providing quality service at a fair price, the entire experience gives my customers piece of mind and allows the to continue to live in their homes in comfort.

We are a home maintenance service that services home owners and renters with home projects. Much of our business is focused on seniors, ensuring that they can continue to live comfortably in their homes as they age.
We do simple things like changing lights and bulbs that require a ladder, install hand rails and bars to prevent falls. We also replace bad slight switches and outlets as well as faucets and toilet repair. We also do more complex work such as installing banisters, kitchen cabinets and tub enclosures. We will review any need, larg or small and will be honest with the customer as to how we can help.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people are surprised to know I hold 2 masters degrees (in chemistry and an MBA) and substitute teach high school chemistry and biology when needed.
