Leslie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The idea of starting my own business began to take shape towards the end of my high school years. While I was unsure of the specifics or how to bring my vision to life, I knew I had a passion for entrepreneurship. My first year at Maryville University was transformative; it was there that I took my first business class, which ignited my love for business and entrepreneurship.
During the summer of 2023, I decided it was time to turn my idea into reality. Inspired by my love for fashion and shopping, I chose to open my own clothing boutique, which I named D’vina Luxe. It was a journey filled with hard work, dedication, and continuous learning. After several months of preparation, I proudly opened D’vina Luxe in May of 2024. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, and I look forward to growing and evolving my boutique further.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy ride to get to where I am today. Balancing the demands of being a college student while trying to open a business was particularly challenging. There were times when I struggled to find the right balance between my academic responsibilities and my entrepreneurial ambitions. I am incredibly blessed to have a supportive network of people who encouraged me throughout the process.
Additionally, I had to navigate the complexities of starting a business from scratch. This involved a steep learning curve as I figured out all the requirements and best practices for launching my boutique. Seeking help and guidance from experienced individuals was crucial to ensure I was on the right track. Despite the hurdles, these experiences have been invaluable in shaping my journey and contributing to the success of D’vina Luxe.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory might not seem like a huge deal to many, but it holds great significance for me. At a young age, I lived in Mexico for a short time, during which I learned Spanish as my first language. When I returned to the United States, I didn’t know any English, and going to school made me feel like I was behind all of my classmates. Determined to overcome this, I set a goal to learn English as quickly and thoroughly as possible. After several years of dedicated effort, I finally reached a point where I felt comfortable enough to have my first conversation in English. That moment marked a significant milestone in my life, symbolizing perseverance and the fulfillment of a personal goal.
