Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah McDowell.
Hi Mariah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Fashion styling and design have always been a passion of mine. At a young age, I styled and created fashion pieces only for myself, but during my senior year of high school, I decided to establish my love for fashion in a business. I started off styling my classmates and proceeded to gain other supporters.
I shortly went off to college and continued to do fashion styling, but I knew that I wanted a brand to share my creativeness with the world. Once I felt that I put enough thought and creation behind the purpose of my brand, I launched Made Millionaire Apparel on February 29, 2020.
Now in 2022, I have built and grown my business on my own by continuing to teach myself new skills and how to use different machines to produce merchandise. With the love and support from family, friends, and my manufacturer, I have been able to stay motivated and ambitious towards pursuing the growth of Made Millionaire Apparel.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I launched Made Millionaire Apparel, I knew what kind of designs I wanted, but didn’t know how to actually produce them on clothing. I didn’t have knowledge of any of the machines I use today. A nearby friend helped me bring my design visions to life digitally.
Once I received the digital design files, I reached out to another company to produce them on the clothing. Because of many obstacles, the company was not able to fulfill my requests. Although I planned on learning the operation of different machines, I was forced to learn them quicker than expected.
From watching videos and reaching out to different experienced machinists, I came across a generous lady that thoroughly taught me how to operate some machines and softwares hands-on. To this day, I continue to implement the skills she shared with me to produce merchandise for the brand.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Made Millionaire Apparel is an online clothing store. I, the owner of the brand, create streetwear fashion designed to comfort everyone.
Not only am I a business owner but an artist/creative and a critical thinker. The mission of my brand is to express that becoming a millionaire is not for money but for the mindset that will develop. If one wants to change their current situation they must change their actions and thoughts.
To change the noticeable you must change the unnoticeable. What makes me proud about building the brand is never forgetting to thank god for blessing me to be where I am now.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Being the best version of yourself and as outgoing as possible are the most important things for me. What made me nervous about launching the business was not being social enough.
As a person who has always been characterized as asocial; maintaining a social media presence has been a constant obstacle for me. One of the most important things i learned is marketing comes with the growth of any business. Knowing this drove me towards breaking out of that shell to implement networking in the efforts to raise brand awareness and consumer growth.
Showing up when and where I needed has helped me along the way, and to this day I am still motivating myself to stay and become more sociable.
