Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Zachry.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
LIV•FIT[ish] is the product of my passion in the world of Exercise Science. When I switched my major as a sophomore at SIUE, my whole world flipped. I found myself networking with a whole new group of people in the community & found a job at a local studio and gym. I taught group fitness workouts & personally trained for over 3 years at two fitness facilities. When I initially interviewed for these jobs I told the owners that my 5-10 year goal was to have my own fitness business in some capacity. I had no idea what that would look like, but I knew that growing up in a family with a small business, I had the entrepreneur spirit & was working towards something of my own.
I was primed & prepped by some of the best in the industry for these three plus years. When you find that thing that interests you, you feel excited to learn every piece of information you can hold on to! Everything in my career world was on cruise control, I had bosses I loved & clients who consistently showed up to learn & grow. Then during the pandemic, my career that I never dreamed would be at risk, was temporarily put on hold. I got bored really quick, and I was tired of waiting for when the world told me I could go back into work to teach clients again.
Throughout the months of boredom, my creativity that I had been neglecting reared its head. I felt a change inside of me – that I was ready to take the jump to start LIV•FIT[ish]. I needed to reach more humans. I loved what I was doing but needed more. Although my business is super young, it has been a vision in planning for longer than I can explain. When I launched the business in January of this year , I received so much immediate interest. Since launching, I have had the privilege of personally training clients virtually for the last 7 months as well as hosting over a dozen pop-up workout classes & events at outdoor venues.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Making the change from working for an established business who brought the clients to me, to then starting my own business & having to market to attract clients who truly want to grow as much as I want to help them has been something I have had to navigate and adjust to. Moving from in person training to virtual is a different experience more so for me as an owner since I no longer operate out of a brick & mortar, but virtually. I now work from my home, there is no giant sign bringing clientele to me, and I rely on word of mouth & social media marketing to bring in new clients.
Although the buzz from announcing the start of the business was enough to get me on my feet, the ebbs and flows of retention & new clients brings a new challenge to each month. Not to mention that at the age of 24 [now 25] I knew very little about all of the specific details of starting my own business. Luckily I have had very intelligent, successful mentors in the business world that I have looked up to since I was young. I have seen their success & failures & taken in all the lessons in between.
The passion of wanting to create something bigger than me has helped me take on the logistic & financial challenges with more grace than I knew I had within me. Being that I am just getting started, I know there will be more challenges ahead. I am ready to face them head on to continue growing this business.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
LIV•FIT[ish] is a custom personal training & fitness event business. We specialize in helping people create plans to reach their goals in a way that fits into their lifestyle. Our motto is move functionally, eat nutritiously & liv intentionally. Each client feels this transition into a healthier & happier way of living in a different way. It is truly amazing to work with clients of different ages who are at different stages of life.
Everyone’s roadmap is different & we acknowledge that & use that knowledge as a tool to help clients feel successful. Talking openly about mental, physical & emotional states is important & not something you typically get in a traditional weight lifting gym. My clients of all genders find that when we check in with each other that they are making positive improvements to their mental + physical + emotional states. What myself & my clients really love about the brand is the [braincurl]. Our logo is a bicep curl with a brain portraying the connection of our mind & body.
People resonate with this & it motivates them to become stronger – mind & body – by challenging themselves daily. We all have a badass inside of us with a power & potential that needs to be reached & activated. LIV•FIT[ish] sparks the curiosity of all humans into the world of Exercise Science & Psychology. Whether a client wants to train one-on-one or signs up for one of our monthly pop-up workout classes & events, they receive an experience that leaves them motivated, excited & curious to keep challenging their mind & body.
