Today we’d like to introduce you to Shenita.
Shenita, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Dr. Shenita Treniece Connally—affectionately known as Dr. C—was born and raised in Pensacola, Florida, to David and Bertha McCants. Educated in Catholic school from first through twelfth grade while being nurtured in the Baptist faith, she often describes herself as a “BaptaCatho,” a reflection of her blended spiritual foundation. As the middle child in a family of seven siblings, with two older sisters already grown and two younger brothers at home, Shenita developed a broad, compassionate outlook on life shaped by her dynamic family environment.
A firm believer in new beginnings, Shenita has triumphed over many of life’s challenges as a mother, grandmother (lovingly called Nana), and widow. Through unwavering faith and steadfast determination, she has devoted her life to helping others rise above adversity and pursue a purposeful, vibrant life. She is a certified life coach, a proud member of the John Maxwell Team, a college graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, a Parent Educator with the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension, and a former educator who now serves on the administrative staff within the Clayton County Public School System in Georgia. Education, empowerment, and encouragement lie at the center of her calling.
Shenita is the founder of Life with Shenita, LLC, an organization built around three compassionate initiatives.
Life After the Rain supports widows and widowers in rediscovering joy and meaning after heartbreak. Shenita will celebrate 10 years of service to this amazing group of men and women alike. She has seen many members of her group pass away in these 10 years, but holds sweet memories of times spent with each of them. Her goal is to continue to offer opportunities for them to continue to live a vibrant life regardless to losing their spouses.
Her financial preparedness initiative began with the publication of her first book, “Is Your House in Order?” (2017), which encourages families to prioritize stewardship and legacy planning.
Her third initiative, HYDRATE, emphasizes the necessity of both physical and spiritual hydration, inspired by her own journey of renewed health and faith. Across all her work, Shenita’s passion remains the same: to help people overcome obstacles and experience “Life After the Rain.”
In January 2019, she published her second book, “Abiding Love”, a collaborative project featuring the heartfelt stories of sixteen widows and widowers. Following God’s prompting to share the deep love she experienced with her late husband, Winston, Shenita invited others to testify to the beauty and sacredness of marriage. Together, their stories encourage couples to cherish one another and offer thoughtful insight into the possibilities of marriage for those who desire it. Both of her books are available on Amazon.
In the spring of 2019, the “Life After the Rain” group was invited by Representative Mike Glanton (since retired) to the Georgia State Capitol to be celebrated and recognized in the House of Representatives. The group has attended annually, with the exception of Covid years. They are scheduled to attend this year on 3/19/2026.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Shenita launched her weekly talk show, Life with Shenita, on April 16, 2020. Broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube, the show was created to educate, empower, entertain, encourage, and inspire people to live abundant and purpose-filled lives despite hardship. As a developing host and self-taught producer, Shenita embraces this platform as part of her evolving ministry. She also hosted An Elegant Evening of Jazz at Clayton State University on July 23, 2023, featuring a celebrated lineup of musicians. Additionally, she leads an annual walk each June in honor of International Widow’s Day, held at Clayton County International Park (Lake Spivey).
On December 3, 2022, Shenita received an Honorary Doctoral Degree in Christian Leadership from the School of Great Commission Bible & Seminary College. She has since continued to advocate for widows and widowers, organizing visits to the Georgia State Capitol to raise awareness of their journeys. Thanks to the support of Representative Mike Glanton (District 75, Ret.) and Representative Rhonda Burnough (District 77), Shenita and her group were formally recognized for their resilience and contributions. Dr. C also received a Proclamation honoring her compassionate leadership and mentorship.
Shenita is the devoted widow of her beloved husband, Winston, who passed away on July 21, 2015. She is blessed with three biological children—Raven A. (John) Tucker, Alvin J. Scott, and Brittnee N. Scott—along with two bonus sons gained through marriage: Christopher Winston Connally and Jonathan Wesley (TAndrea) Connally. Her grandchildren are a continual source of joy and renewed purpose: Micah Isaiah Morgan, Madison Treniece Scott, Wesley Alexander Tucker, Genesis Alexandria Campbell, and Gabriel Campbell, as well as three cherished bonus grandchildren: Jamarion Tucker, Aspen Elise, and Amari Edward Connally. She has been a foster mother to Legacy McCaslin (2-year-old) since November 22, 2024. Permanent guardianship is in the pipeline for the youngest princess of the grand gang.
Through every chapter of her life, Dr. Shenita Treniece Connally remains a woman of faith, resilience, purpose, and unshakable hope—committed to leading others into a vibrant life beyond life’s challenges.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, however, with instructions from God, it has been a WIN for all involved. He always provides for the purpose given. For that I’m grateful!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
It was included in the bio on a previous page.
I’m most proud of my ability to keep pushing through the pain of losing my husband, who was the breadwinner, and most of the income ceased when he died in 2015, but I have not lacked a thing. In addition, I’ve been able to minister and support over 200 widows/widowers during these 10 years as a widow.
MINISTERED through PAIN all while encouraging myself to live a vibrant life too.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me most is understanding through the loss of my parents, older brother, and second husband that “THERE IS LIFE AFTER THE RAIN!”
In addition, I want people to understand that there is a reward in being OBEDIENT to what God instructs. It’s not ONLY about us but those we will serve.
God protected me from my first husband, who is HIV positive and was diagnosed right after I received the notification that I was pregnant with our 3rd child. That child is now 36, and neither of us has been diagnosed positive to date. THANK God!!
