Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydnee Cory.
Hi Sydnee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I was little, I’ve had two big passions: animals—especially dogs—and racing. My family has deep roots in the dirt track racing community. From my dad and uncles to me and my sisters, racing has always been a huge part of our lives. I always knew I wanted to build a career doing something I loved, whether that was working with animals or staying connected to the track.
After high school, I took my first steps toward a career in veterinary medicine by enrolling in an animal science program. I was juggling two bartending jobs, commuting an hour each way to school, and taking care of my three pups—all at just 19 years old and living on my own. It didn’t take long for me to realize that the path I was on, as much as I loved the idea of it, wasn’t sustainable. I was burnt out, and something had to change.
That’s when I stumbled upon an opportunity at PetSmart. I started as a dog bather, and they offered a path to become a certified pet stylist through their Pet Stylist Academy. I knew it would be a big shift—but I had no idea how much I would come to love grooming. About five months into bathing, I was accepted into the academy and dove in headfirst, learning as much as I possibly could.
After graduating, I returned to the salon and continued growing under the mentorship of my manager and the senior groomers—who became great friends and taught me the tips and tricks that shaped me into the groomer I am today.
After about two and a half years with PetSmart, I took a position at Double J in Highland, IL, where I continued to refine my skills and deepen my love for the profession. Then, in May of this year, I stumbled across an incredible opportunity—to start my own grooming business.
And that’s how Victory Lane Pups LLC was born!
A blend of my love for animals and racing—my true passions, finally crossed at the finish line.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely—there were definitely some bumpy roads along the way. One of the biggest challenges came early on when I first started pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. I was 19, living on my own, working two bartending jobs, commuting an hour each way to school, and trying to keep up with college courses—all while raising three dogs by myself. I was completely burnt out. I loved animals and still do, but I realized the path I was on wasn’t going to be sustainable for me long-term, mentally or financially.
That was a really hard pill to swallow—changing direction felt like giving up at first. But it taught me a lot about resilience and the importance of being honest with yourself about what’s working and what isn’t.
Even after switching paths and moving into grooming, there were still challenges—long hours on my feet, dealing with dogs with behavioral issues, and learning how to work with all types of breeds and temperaments. Not to mention learning the business side of things once I decided to go out on my own.
But I think all those bumps made me stronger and more resourceful. I had to be adaptable, learn fast, and rely on my work ethic to get through it. Looking back, those tough moments were what shaped me into the groomer and business owner I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Victory Lane Pups LLC is more than just a grooming business—it’s the result of years of hard work, growth, and a deep love for dogs. I started this business with a vision to combine professional, compassionate pet care with the kind of small-town trust and connection that makes every client feel like family.
We specialize in personalized, one-on-one grooming designed to make each dog feel safe, comfortable, and loved. Whether it’s a simple bath or a full groom, every session is tailored to the dog’s unique needs—not just breed standards. We’re known for being patient and gentle, taking the time to build trust even with the most nervous or high-maintenance pups. That’s something I’m incredibly proud of.
What really sets us apart is the personal touch. This isn’t just a business—it’s about building relationships with pets and their owners. I want every client to leave not only with a clean, happy dog, but with the peace of mind that their fur baby was treated like one of my own. Having raised and rescued many dogs myself, I know how much they mean to their families—and that level of care is at the heart of everything we do.
I’m committed to continuing education to ensure I provide the best care possible, and I am certified in Pet First Aid and CPR, so pet safety is always a top priority.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the name—Victory Lane Pups. It represents both of my lifelong passions: racing and animals. The name symbolizes the finish line of a long, winding journey filled with hard work and dedication, and the beginning of something truly special.
When you book with Victory Lane Pups, you’re supporting a business built on heart, hustle, and genuine care. It’s not just about grooming—it’s about trust, quality, and making sure your dog looks and feels their absolute best.

We’re proud to work closely with amazing women-owned businesses like M&M Dog Co, Reds Threads Embroidery, Collective Threads, Zen Paws Farm LLC and The Crafty Heifers. Collaborating with these talented local creators not only strengthens our community but also allows us to offer unique, high-quality products and services that our clients love. Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Honestly, it’s a mix of a few things that truly mean the most to me: dogs, racing, family, and community.
Working with dogs every day brings me a deep sense of joy and purpose. Whether it’s helping a nervous pup feel safe or giving a beloved family pet a fresh, clean look—there’s nothing better than seeing that wagging tail at the end of a groom. It’s more than just a job to me—it’s a way to connect, to care, and to give animals the love and patience they deserve.
Racing is the other half of my heart. It’s been in my family for generations, and it’s truly part of who I am. I love everything about it—the adrenaline, the dirt flying, and especially the sense of community that comes with it. One thing I’m especially proud of is that my family and I help run the Jr. Fan Club at our local racetrack. Getting to interact with the next generation of race fans and create fun, memorable experiences for the kids is incredibly rewarding. It’s a way to give back to a sport that’s given so much to us—and to keep its spirit alive in the most fun way possible.
And honestly, spending time with my pups, Wes, our family, and close friends is what makes me the happiest. They’ve been by my side through it all, cheering me on as I built Victory Lane Pups LLC. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without their constant love and support—it means the world to me.
So for me, happiness comes from doing what I love, staying connected to my roots, giving back to my community, and surrounding myself with the people (and pups!) who mean the most to me.
