Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Wise.
Hi Amy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been in the field of service and healthcare-starting with being inspired by caring for my aging grandma. I chose the career field of occupational therapy and found myself working with all ages-sincerely loving helping others. It wasn’t until years of working the conventional care system, the pandemic, and going down dead ends and dismissals with my own health that I really stepped into a different thought process. I began to ask more why questions and step outside of conventional thinking. I discovered functional medicine and holistic care and the results were life-changing. My health transformed from very sick to completely healed—without medication or negative side effects. I’m so grateful for my provider, now mentor, who validated my feelings, understood me & always was confident I could heal.
This personal journey lit a passion for helping others experience the same shift in their health. I’ve seen friends & clients overcome severe postpartum depression, gut dysfunction, anxiety, panic attacks through functional testing and plans designed to naturally balance their body’s chemistry. I have also helped families navigate root causes of their kids’ mood, behavior and picky eating challenges by giving them knowledge, strategies and confidence to approach them differently. My postpartum journeys further inspired me to help mothers navigating hormonal shifts, nutrient depletion, feeding difficulties with their infants and picky toddlers, role and habit changes. I know amazing things can happen when you have a provider in your corner who looks at the whole picture with different lenses.
I’m passionate about empowering those who feel overlooked or stuck in symptom management. To anyone who refuses to accept “normal” daily suffering & struggles: you don’t have to. My goal is to give people hope and help them feel heard by educating them on their unique body’s issues, providing detailed problem-solving through functional lab testing, and coaching them through lifestyle changes to enhance their health and overall quality of life.
This is just the beginning of my story. I have big aspirations for the future & am always learning more. I truly look forward to helping each & everyone I can.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No-nothing ever is. The biggest struggle was my own health journey in 2019. I was trying so many different things & my health was really knocking me down. I contemplated a leave of absence from work, but luckily started working with my functional medicine practitioner and found some relief right before the pandemic hit. I was also planning a wedding & buying a house at this time, so the stress was immensely high. I chose to go to school for functional diagnostic nutrition while pregnant and completed the certification newly postpartum. I began working on building my business laying in bed with my newborn beside me. Learning how to market and grow my business is definitely still a challenge, since running a business is still new to me! Navigating entrepreneurship and parenthood to a 4 & 2 year old now can also be quite the challenge!
As you know, we’re big fans of Wise Living Health & Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Wise Living Health & Wellness is currently an all-virtual business and strives to provide holistic healthcare services to families seeking natural ways to optimize their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Wise Living offers a comprehensive approach using functional lab testing addressing mineral, detoxification, digestive and nervous system imbalances. Wise Living helps women & families navigate postpartum challenges, anxiety, gut challenges, feeding struggles, and sensory processing challenges by addressing root causes and offering natural, personalized solutions.
I believe my experience-both professional & personal-sets me apart from others. As an occupational therapist, I was already very well trained in analyzing the mind, body, habits & routines from a holistic lens with all ages. Not only am I an OT, but I also have the training and ability to utilize functional labs & advanced nutrient therapies in my work which is so powerful and truly integrative. All of my personal experiences have truly helped me understand how the body works under significant stress, trauma, & environmental toxins in order to be a better practitioner.
I am proud of my ability to serve so many different people–kids & women. I have extensive feeding therapy experience and training with infants and children and I love how I can offer new lenses and approaches. I am also proud of my ability to help women suffering from postpartum mood changes who do not want to be on medications or would like a more natural approach.
I would be honored to help you, your family & your health journey. If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I am the youngest of six kids and grew up in an Irish Catholic family in a quiet south county neighborhood. I loved being around my family members, playing outside, sports, dance, figure skating and crafts. We would frequently spend time at my grandma’s house where I learned to value serving others. I was a good student & rule follower. I grew up very shy and quiet and “came out of my shell” only with friends and family. It wasn’t until I competed & earned a leadership scholarship for college that I truly started being outgoing with people outside my close circle.
