Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Forrest.
Hi Brandon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was in the telecommunications field for a number of years and got tired of the corporate environment. I always had a love of comics and collectibles. I started off having a booth selling comics and collectibles at a handful of conventions and then, with the encouragement of my wife, we opened a brick and mortar in 2021. Since then, we’ve established a strong customer base and met lots of great people with similar interests.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every new business has its own challenges with finding new customers. We are lucky enough to be in an industry that avid comic book readers/collectors will search for new locations and businesses that can fulfill their collections.
We’ve been impressed with Altered State Comics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a local comic book and collectible store located in Manchester, Missouri specializing in new releases every Wednesday, back issues and dollar book, trade paperbacks, collectibles and lots of other pop culture merchandise. There’s always a classic movie or television show on the tv and punk or 90s rock playing on the record player. One of the best pieces of advice I received was to make the store show my personality. That’s why we have skate decks on the wall, punk rock music playing and local artists selling their merch.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I visited my grandparents’ butcher shop in Springfield, my older cousin would take me to Burger King across the street. I would get the Burger King crown and play on the indoor playground.
