Today we’d like to introduce you to Cabanne Howard.
Hi Cabanne, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Kaleidoscope was born out of necessity. I founded the firm I wished I could have hired when I was a client looking for a marketing firm. It is also the place I wished had existed when looking for a place to grow my career. In that, we value relationships and results in equal measure. Our team brings strategic thinking but can also block and tackle, which is refreshing for our clients. We are a unique breed of creatives with analytical minds… known for ability to bring both left and right brain thinking to each project.
Our clients experience this difference and so does our team. In spite of the Global Resignation, we are reading about, it is a source of pride that we have not had a single team member depart KMG in the global pandemic.
We are as much marketers as we are problem solvers. I have always loved bringing the complex into focus. Nearly seven years in, I can honestly say we are just getting started and it is so much fun to come to work every day.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I am a risk-taker…to a point. I wanted to go out on my own but had the same fears that I think many people face when starting something from scratch. Will anyone hire me? How will I make money? Am I good enough? Am I ready? At a certain point, I made the decision to push past fear… and signing my former employer on as our initial client went a long way toward me feeling confident to take the leap. There have definitely been struggles along the way. I way underestimated how challenging it would be to find and retain the best talent. And I probably overestimated how challenging it would be to find clients to hire us. But I can honestly say that once I get through a hard period, I emerge stronger and more confident that I can make it through the next hurdle when (not if!) it comes. Smooth is a relative word… Overall I’d say it’s been a smooth road with lots of unexpected turns!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Kaleidoscope Management Group?
We are a team of highly creative and analytical digital marketers. We think big and we also execute like ninjas. Our clients are visionary and we get to be visionary alongside of them to help elevate their brands and achieve their business goals using digital marketing.
In many ways, marketing has become a commodity. We have worked hard to distinguish ourselves in a very crowded space by embedding ourselves as extensions of our client’s teams. We seek to debunk the common stereotype of contractors who ring the register and fail to connect their efforts to business outcomes.
Social Media, Email Marketing, Text Message Marketing — predominantly in the real estate and healthcare sectors — are our core areas of expertise. We are proud of creating a brand that is a diamond in the rough. Like a Kaleidoscope, when we shake things up and hold them to the light the end result is beautiful and memorable.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I’d say my desire to dream big while prioritizing relationships along the way has served me well. Both in helping to open doors and keeping the doors open over time. We have grown almost exclusively by word of mouth, which is ironic for a company in the marketing business. But word of mouth is a powerful vehicle. In many ways, social media is a modern-day extension of word of mouth.
I attribute my success to my ability to empathize with and relate easily to others. This applies to my clients as well as my team members. I view them as human beings first and business colleagues second.
