Today we’d like to introduce you to Damon Major.
Hi Damon , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At the heart of my journey is family. I’m married to Rosha Major, my wife and business partner, and together we share five children. Family is the anchor for everything I do and the lens through which I view community, stability, and opportunity.
I grew up in **West St. Louis City**, in a neighborhood where resources were limited and systems didn’t always feel built for people who looked like me or lived where I lived. Poverty wasn’t abstract—it was daily life. I saw firsthand how violence, lack of access, and disinvestment compound over generations. But I also saw resilience, neighbors looking out for each other, and the power of people who refuse to give up on their community. That instilled a responsibility in me to help create opportunity where it’s needed most.
As I got older, I felt a pull toward **community work**, especially supporting people who are disenfranchised and underserved. I didn’t want to just talk about change—I wanted to be part of building it. That path eventually led me to the **St. Louis County Department of Public Health**, where I now work in **violence prevention**. One of the most meaningful efforts I’ve helped lead is launching the county’s first large-scale gun lock campaign, **Lock It to Live**. The goal is simple but powerful: reduce firearm injuries and suicides by promoting safe storage, having real conversations, and meeting people where they are. It’s about prevention, dignity, and saving lives before tragedy happens.
At the same time, I’ve built a career in **real estate**, and for me, that work is deeply connected to public health and violence prevention. Stable housing is prevention. Homeownership is power. For me, that means helping families—often first-time buyers—navigate barriers to homeownership and move from renting to buying, particularly those who haven’t historically had access to these opportunities. I actively seek out funding, grants, and programs to make homeownership attainable, partnering with organizations like **The FAM, Beyond Housing, and other community agencies** to help clients bridge financial gaps and move from renting to owning.
My real estate journey began—and continues—at Key West Property Partners, powered by eXp Realty LLC, under the leadership of Dana West. That platform has allowed me to combine strong brokerage support with a mission-driven approach, giving my clients not just professional expertise, but someone who will actively advocate for their best interests from the first conversation to the closing table.
When you zoom out, all of this work is connected. Whether it’s preventing violence, promoting safe gun storage, or helping a family buy their first home, it’s about **reducing barriers, increasing stability, and creating pathways to generational wealth and safety**. My story is really about taking what I came from, understanding the systems that failed my community, and doing everything I can to help build better ones—for my kids, and for everyone coming up behind us.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Growing up in poverty, instability was normal—finances were always tight, and long-term planning wasn’t something you saw modeled often because survival came first. When you’re focused on making it through the week, the idea of building wealth through homeownership can feel distant, even unrealistic. That reality shaped how I understand the barriers people face today.
One of the biggest struggles along the way has been helping people understand the importance of homeownership while also acknowledging the real financial circumstances they’re navigating. I’ve worked with so many families who want to own a home but are carrying the weight of low wages, student loans, medical bills, past credit challenges, or simply not having access to generational support. Saving for a down payment, managing credit, and navigating lending requirements can feel overwhelming when you’re already stretched thin.
Another challenge has been changing the narrative. For many future homeowners, especially in underserved communities, there’s a deep skepticism about systems that historically haven’t worked in their favor. Trust has to be earned. I’ve had to spend time not just educating, but listening—meeting people where they are and being honest about both the opportunities and the hurdles.
Personally, there were moments where finances were a struggle for me too, trying to balance passion-driven community work with building stability for my own family. But those challenges reinforced why the work matters. They pushed me to focus on solutions and creating realistic paths to ownership rather than one-size-fits-all advice.
Those struggles didn’t slow the mission; they sharpened it. They reminded me that homeownership isn’t just about buying a house—it’s about access, patience, education, and creating systems that actually work for people who’ve been locked out for far too long.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At a high level, my business is built on one defining principle: access creates outcomes. Through Select Major Properties, powered by Key West Property Partners at eXp Realty, I focus on helping people who are often told “not yet” or “not possible” turn homeownership into a real, achievable step forward.
I’m known for problem-solving beyond the listing. I specialize in working with first-time buyers, underserved families, and working professionals who need more than a transaction-based agent. I’m particularly known for finding thousands of dollars in legitimate resources—down payment assistance, closing cost support, forgivable loans, and layered financing programs—that many buyers never hear about. If funding exists to make a deal work responsibly, my job is to uncover it and structure it.
What sets me apart from other agents is that I approach real estate through a systems and advocacy lens. My background in public health and violence prevention gives me a deep understanding of how housing stability impacts safety, health, and generational wealth. I don’t just help clients buy homes—I help them navigate systems that weren’t designed with them in mind. That means educating buyers early, collaborating closely with lenders and nonprofits, and protecting clients from deals that don’t serve their long-term interests.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is trust and impact. My brand stands for education, transparency, and follow-through. Clients know I’m the agent who will slow the process down when needed, explain the fine print, and advocate hard at the table. I’ve built strong partnerships with organizations like Beyond Housing, The FAM, and other community agencies, allowing me to connect clients to resources that reduce financial strain and open doors to ownership sooner.
What I want readers to know is that my business isn’t about volume or hype—it’s about results with purpose. Whether someone is buying their first home, rebuilding credit, or trying to create stability for their family, my goal is to provide a clear path, real financial support, and confidence throughout the process. Real estate, when done right, is a tool for equity and empowerment—and that’s exactly how I practice it.
How do you think about luck?
Luck has definitely played a role in my life and business—but I don’t see it as the whole story. Growing up in West St. Louis City, there was plenty of what people might call bad luck: being born into poverty, limited access to resources, and systems that weren’t built to support people like me or my neighbors. None of that was random, but it did shape the obstacles I had to navigate early on. Those experiences forced me to develop resilience, awareness, and a deep understanding of how opportunity—or the lack of it—shows up in real life.
On the other side, I’ve also experienced what looks like good luck, though I see it more as prepared opportunity. I’ve been fortunate to cross paths with mentors, partners, and organizations that aligned with my values at the right moments—whether that’s leadership opportunities in public health, the chance to help launch meaningful violence prevention initiatives, or building my real estate career within a supportive environment like Key West Property Partners. Those moments mattered, but they only worked because I was ready to step into them.
In business, especially real estate, luck might open a door—but knowledge, persistence, and relationships keep it open. Many of the wins my clients experience aren’t accidental. They come from digging for resources others overlook, asking different questions, and refusing to accept “no” as the final answer when ethical solutions exist. What some call luck is often the result of preparation, advocacy, and showing up consistently.
If luck has played any defining role, it’s this: I’ve been given enough opportunity to turn my experiences into purpose. And I don’t take that lightly. My focus now is making sure access, resources, and opportunity don’t come down to luck for the people and communities I serve.
