Hidden Gems: Meet Emily Frisella of The Paper & Plan Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Frisella.

Hi Emily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The Paper & Plan Co was founded on memories and creating them.

When I was 8 years old, I remember the Easter Bunny delivering a basket overflowing with beautiful, bright & exciting papers, pens, stickers, folders & more. It sparked my love of everything stationery and soon back to school shopping for supplies became my most favorite shopping trip of the year to see what was new in the stationery aisle. To me, there was always a special kind of confidence that came with brand new notebooks and sharp pencils. This enjoyment of all things paper took on a different meaning as I grew older.

In my early 20’s after my grandpa passed away, I remember looking through photos with my grandma on the floor of a spare bedroom from an old red worn leather photo album. Within that album, she had a stack of love letters my grandpa wrote to her. I looked through those letters with her as tears formed in her eyes, I was in awe of the beauty of this time capsule we were holding. There was so much personality to this paper. It wasn’t an email or a text…it was my grandpa’s time, emotions & pure love documented for eternity. I remember thinking at that moment that I wanted loved ones to have those kinds of things from me that they could cherish & have it mean to them what I saw in my grandma’s eyes that day.

As the years went on, my excitement & product ideas grew and The Paper & Plan Co was born! Founded on the principle of traditional luxury meets modern design. Beautifully crafted quality paper goods and the art of proper instruments is our passion.

In a world full of technology, we believe in tradition and it is our mission to strengthen this tradition in a very stylish way.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Some may say I am crazy. I launched a new company in the fall of 2020 in the height of the pandemic when things were shut down and no one was planning anything and yet here I was, fully invested and launching a paper & planning company when no one was going anywhere. Our biggest struggle to date was actually being able to receive our 2020 planners. They were en route and at the port in Canada and due to Covid-19 everyone was short staffed or only working minimal hours. My planners were scheduled to arrive to me in Missouri in early October. Early October turned to late October…late October turned to mid-November which turned to early December. Mind you, I had preorders that started in September so customers had already paid for them and had to wait months. I felt terrible. I was working customer service 24/7 and feel so thankful to have everyone be so understanding. I was totally transparent with them and always kept them updated on what was going on. I even planned to fly to Canada, rent a truck to the border, off load as many planners as I could and load them in a US truck I could rent and drive as many as I could back to Missouri only to be told that I would not be allowed to get them at the port in Canada and I just had to wait. The stress was as thick as molasses but we made it and all our customers got their planners just in time for the New Year.
