Hari, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
iCover started right in the heart of the pandemic back in 2020. You could call it a COVID baby. Co-founder, Nicole Mwesigwa and I wanted to make life insurance accessible and affordable. Our personal journeys, both unique and substantial in their own ways, are what pushed us to pursue this mission. This prompted us to create the best life insurance buying experience. My undeniable faith is what’s led me to make it as far as I have in this journey. Through perseverance and persistence in this industry, we have 27 business clients that we support through our platform that offers life insurance in less than 5 minutes; what we believe to be the quickest in the world. And, more recently, we’ve launched a direct-to-consumer platform called iCover Direct that allows any and everybody to go through the life insurance buying experience in less than 5 minutes. Now, our team has grown close to 60 members; all of which bring valuable and essential assets to the company in many various ways. We pride ourselves on being able to wear multiple hats, as every company member boasts multiple talents.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I couldn’t help, but laugh a little when I read this question. It’s been the opposite of smooth, quite frankly. It took 2 years for us to get our first client. So, from 2020 to 2022, Nicole and I were met with denial and rejection 115 times. Dealing with COVID and this constant state of dismissal could’ve been discouraging had we not remained resilient. Trying to bootstrap a company takes a toll on your mind, body, and soul. There’s also a constant battle of needing to take on as much responsibility as you can as a leader and CEO, especially with cash being an ever-lasting premium. But, also knowing when to off-load the work to the next dependable person on the team in order to prioritize actions that can only be done by you.
