Today we’d like to introduce you to Jami Christine.
Hi Jami, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
It’s hard to pinpoint where my story begins — I’ve been drawn to all things metaphysical from a young age, which feeds into much of what I do today. Knowing I wanted to work in natural healing, I became a massage therapist in 2009, graduating from the Healing Arts Center in St. Louis. I opened my first business in 2010 and began helping my community through holistic healing. In 2011, my first son was born, but his birth was a traumatic experience that sent me into a night of the soul. That’s when my soul-searching journey began because I had nowhere else to go but up. I dedicated much of my time to therapy, changing my diet, and running, and I eventually rediscovered myself. After my grandmother passed away in 2013, I began thinking more deeply about death and the afterlife, and combined with my recent healing journey, I came up with the idea for my first novel, The Transcendent, which was released in 2020 and then rereleased with professional editing in 2024. In 2020, I attended the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts online. I received my certification in hypnotherapy and life coaching. Since then, I’ve been developing my practice as a transpersonal hypnotherapist and my technique, Expanded Healing Hypnosis, where I use a combination of hypnotherapy tools to help the client reach a deeper level of understanding about themselves and their purpose, as well as find a deeper level of healing in whatever might be holding them back in life. Today, I am still passionate about bringing healing to others, whether through massage therapy, hypnotherapy, or inspiration through my writing.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
On the outside looking in, yes. My business has grown successfully; I have two healthy children, a supportive family and community, and a novel that has been very well received. But on the inside, no. Hitting rock bottom in the hospital when my son was born and then trying to be a good mother while in a terrible place mentally and emotionally was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through in my life. Putting in the work to heal and rise from that was also one of the most significant challenges I’ve ever faced. As I rediscovered myself, I learned in complex ways that I was unhappy in my marriage and had to face a lot of unknowns of the road ahead on my own. But now, anytime life is challenging, I remind myself of what I’ve already gotten through, and I feel confident I can get through anything.
I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jami Christine / The Phoenix Massage Therapy?
I have two businesses — one as a massage therapist and hypnotherapist and the other as an author. The Phoenix Massage Therapy is my massage practice in Red Bud, IL. I have been working as a massage therapist for 15 years, and it has been gratifying to offer healing to the people in my community. I know that I make a difference in many lives. I love incorporating Touch For Health meridian balancing, which uses muscle testing to check for imbalances in the meridians, and a series of techniques to restore balance and flow to any blockages. This technique offers more profound insight into possible emotional causes for physical problems, and I believe many physical ailments originate from our emotions.
Adding hypnotherapy to my practice has been incredibly rewarding, too. My technique, Expanded Healing Hypnosis, allows the client to take a deeper look at themselves through the lens of the subconscious mind. I’ve seen a wide array of experiences, from past life regressions, connecting with passed loved ones, speaking to and healing the inner child, meeting spirit guides, and more. Of course, I tell all my clients that I’m not here to try to prove any of these experiences are real — the goal of these sessions is that the client comes away feeling lighter, more accessible, and more transparent about who they are and what they want out of life so that they can step into the future with strength and confidence.
Aside from my work in the healing arts, I’m also an author. I’ve recently published the second edition of my first novel, The Transcendent (it’s a second edition because I didn’t have it professionally edited the first time, and it needed it!), which is a young adult metaphysical fiction about a girl who can cross souls over to the other side if they’re dying alone. Still, her ability is involuntary — she gets called without warning. The story takes a deeper look at accepting ourselves as we are, and when she is confronted with a situation where a dying soul doesn’t want to die, she finds out she can bring them back. Still, at a cost, the reader gets to take a deeper look at fate and free will — that sometimes things happen that are out of our control, but how we respond to those things determines how we move forward after it. My future novels will have similar themes of stories that bring entertainment and life lessons.
What does success mean to you?
Success is happiness and sharing that happiness with others. I tried to mark off society’s “success” checklist — get a job, get married, build a house, have the kids, etc., and for some reason, I battled depression even though I “had everything.” It wasn’t until I started following my heart rather than what everyone else said to follow that I discovered true happiness, which is a success. But knowing that I’ve helped and inspired so many people along the way is an even greater mark of success. That’s the most important thing anyone can do — tune out what everyone says you’re supposed to be doing and do what your heart says to do.
