Hi Joel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We started Countryside Farm + Market in 2018, selling tomatoes on a card table with a few flowers. Today, we have a large production facility with 7 greenhouses and retail 90% of our own product.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, starting with nothing and building something is extremely difficult. Our first obstacle was getting through COVID-19. After barely surviving that, lots of staff turnover, and other growing pains too numerous to mention, we are proud to say those early obstacles molded us into who we are and what our business is today.

We are a full-service garden center producing 90% of our own product, which allows us to offer the best plants for our local environment. We are known for flowers and great customer service. We try to greet each customer because we are not selling plants, we are selling happiness, and plants are the avenue that allows us to do that. We want each of our customers to feel better about themselves and their lives when they leave.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Yes, we take risks every day. When you plant a seed, there is no guarantee that it will grow into a flower that you can sell. Farming is legalized gambling. The other risk you take is that you can plant a seed, do everything correctly, have the most beautiful flower, and still not know if a customer will buy it. There are a lot of risks every day, but that’s what molds who we are.
