Hidden Gems: Meet Tara Griffin of Tara’s Touch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Griffin.

Hi Tara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hair is something I’m very passionate about. I started off braiding hair around the age of 13. I learned how to braid growing up, seeing my mom do it. It took me years of practice to master the technique, but once I got it down pack, it was easy to bring in clientele. I recently started doing other people’s hair, such as family, friends, and my peers, and it had turned from a hobby to my profession.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
For the most part, it’s been a smooth road. I have encountered some problems, such as location issues and time management. Another struggle I ran into was issues with my body, such as cramps in my hands and feet, so I stopped braiding for at least a year. Managing my clients was frustrating when I started doing hair, so I invested in a booking site.

We’ve been impressed with Tara’s Touch, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tara’s Touch is my service name. As you may know, I’m a hairstylist specializing in braids. Im known for knotless braids. My proudest moment was my calendar getting booked for a full month; that was a big accomplishment because that’s something I never did before. I would love for people to know that hair is more than a style. It’s an art, and you can be creative with it.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
During covid, I learned how important human interactions are to me and my business. I also learned that you should always stay prepared because you never know how your life can change.
