Hidden Gems: Meet Te’Ara Arman of Te’Ara Speaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Te’Ara Arman.

Hi Te’Ara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised on the northside of St. Louis and spent a lot of my free time at Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club where I learned how to believe in myself, have fun, guide myself and others to their potential through organization and strategic planning, sports, music, art, dance, etc. This is where my love for mentoring and coaching others began, although at the time I just saw it as doing something I loved to do. Never did I realize then that I was already living in my purpose. In 2000 I graduated from Rockwood Summit High School and left for college, attending Jackson State University where I received a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration. After graduation, I spent a short time living in Atlanta, Georgia before moving back to Jackson, Ms and then moving back home to St. Louis. Back at home, I was working in retail and getting my Master of Art in Human Resource Management, but something didn’t feel right. I realized my job wasn’t fulfilling me and I wanted to get back to helping at-risk youth find themselves and their voice. One of my long-term goals was having my own children’s center with a community clinic in it to be able to provide services to our youth and community, but what I was doing at the time was taking me away from my passion.

Eventually, I left the retail realm to start working for the Division of Youth Services, which later led me to being an Educator. As an Educator, I not only got a chance to mentor and coach youth but I was able to start mentoring and coach adults as well. Again, still just looking at my work as something I was passionate about, not realizing it was a big part of my purpose. A lot of times, we go looking for our purpose thinking that we have to find it when all along it has already found us. For years, I had been told that I was born to be a Motivational Speaker, Coach and Author, so I needed to get ready to fully step into those roles. When I tell you I pushed and pushed and pushed those things away always saying “who am I motivating, ya’ll are talking crazy”, but I was the crazy one because truth be told, I had been living in my purpose, in these positions since I was 15 years old. Today I am an International Empowerment Speaker, Purpose Coach and Author with multiple platforms to guide others through their growth journey to their purpose.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Whew! Absolutely not. It has definitely not been a smooth road. There have been so many ups and downs throughout the years. I fought my purpose for so long and thought I would be able to do it forever, but I was dead stopped in my tracks. You see, when you finally accept your purpose, you have to first get yourself together and follow your own advice if you want someone else to follow yours. I had to face my biggest fear of showing the real ME. I have always worried about what others had to say about me or what they thought of me. I needed to be validated by others for some reason, I was scared no one would like me or understand why I liked to do different things, but now that is changing. I refuse to let anything or anybody hold me back. It doesn’t matter what others think or feel about you. As long as you believe in yourself and your efforts that’s what counts. In order for me to get through that struggle, I created my mantra. Dare to be different, live to inspire, and be who you are authentically and unapologetically daily as I live in my purpose to guide others to theirs.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Te’Ara Speaks?
