Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Polites.
Hi Dan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was a young kid, my father was one of the shareholders at Clinton Hill Golf Course in Swansea, IL. He brought my two brothers John, Mark and I into the world of golf when we were younger. I played golf in High School at Althoff Catholic High School in Belleville, IL. After Graduating in 1981, I went to New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico on a full ride scholarship for golf. Graduating from NMJC in 1983, I soon realized I was not good enough to play professional golf. Coming to that realization I decided to go back to school at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan to study Professional Golf Management with a Bachelors in Marketing. Graduated in 1987 with 80% credit going to PGA of America membership. Was accepted as a member of PGA of America on March 1 of 1992. I opened my first business DP Golf Outdoor on August 1st of 1989. After moving to a few different locations I decided to open up DP Golf Indoors on September 15th of 2022. We offer three Golf Simulators, lessons for all ages with a lesson tee bay, and we also have a putting green available for precision practice on putting. We also have Patti’s Parlor for video gaming and the Goalby-Haas room which can hold up to 18 people for meetings or get together’s for any event.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Let’s be honest, owning your own business is never a smooth road. But thankfully with the help of my amazing parents Patti and Jack, I was able to persevere and had financial support from them throughout my career. But all in all I truly enjoy coming to work each day and meeting new people who are interested in the sport. Since the golf industry has changed drastically with new avenues of golf facilities, also having online instructions dialogs have really taken a toll on the industry as well. While it has had an impact on the industry we have learned to move and change with the industry and conform to become apart of what people need around this area. I have been blessed to be in business since 1992.
We’ve been impressed with Dp Golf Indoors, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We have 3 golf simulators, with a lesson tee bay, along with a putting green for accurate putting. We also have our Goalby-haas room for meetings and the Patti’s parlor for video gaming.
