Today we’d like to introduce you to Garett Brangenberg.
Hi Garett, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story started with our aging yellow lab, Buddy.
He was scared to walk down just two small steps to go outside because of his hip and joint pain. In 2018, we started him on CBD, and within weeks, he was moving like a young pup again. That transformation changed everything for me.
I dove deep into researching the plant and its medicinal potential, as well as the many uses for fiber and grain. Over the years, veterinarians gave Buddy three separate short-term prognoses due to tumors and cancer. Each time, we doubled down on supporting him with more CBD, and each time, he exceeded expectations. Buddy lived to be 15 years old.
In 2020, while working as a CPA, I planted an acre of hemp, about 1,800 plants, with the simple goal of selling biomass as a side project. But one thing led to another, and that side gig turned into something much bigger. I launched a true farm-to-table hemp brand: Green Roots Hemp Co.
In 2025, I joined forces with the Beleaf Life’s Oils team, and together we created Modifi Brands — a family of brands united by one mission: helping as many people as possible find natural alternatives for wellness, recovery, and even recreation.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship is almost always a bumpy road, and in the cannabis space, that road can feel uphill both ways.
From the beginning, the restrictions around this plant have been intense, and many still exist today. I’ve been removed from website platforms. Banks have told me they wouldn’t work with us. Credit card processors have held funds for months over “compliance issues” without clearly explaining what needed to change. The rules are constantly shifting, and sometimes they seem designed to push small operators out altogether.
And now, we’re watching new legislation attempt to restrict or dismantle parts of the industry entirely.
It’s hard not to see the greed and politics at play, especially when the plant itself represents something so different. But adversity has a way of sharpening you.
Along the way, I’ve met incredible people, farmers, processors, retailers, customers, and partners — who genuinely believe in building something better. The challenges have forced me to grow, not just as a business owner, but as a person. I’ve learned resilience, adaptability, leadership, and the importance of staying grounded in your mission, even when the path gets rough.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always drawn to nature and agriculture. That love was shaped by my parents and grandparents, being raised around the farm, spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and learning to appreciate the land at an early age.
