Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmin Ross.
Hi Jazmin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story started when I was 11. I woke up covered in red dots all over me. I ran to my mom to show her and we immediately went to the doctor. The doctor ordered us to go home and wait for my lab results. An hour after being home, the doctor called and I could tell that it wasn’t good news based on how my mom looked. The doctor informed her not to let me bump into anything or cut myself or I’ll bleed out. The red dots that I was covered in were blood clots. She rushed me to the ER and I was put in a bubble as we waited for a room. The nurse expressed that I had to be secluded because of my immune system. I was transported to the cancer floor. I entered a room that had a patient in there. I don’t remember her name just her face. She was smiling and had lost all of her hair.
My mom and dad went out to speak with the doctor and nurses. The girl and I began to exchange names and she told me that I was pretty and looked like a doll. I told her she was also and she just smiled. Being so young, I then, at that moment, realized that beauty was within not what you look like. Someone that was so sick seen beauty in me at my worst. Hours later, my roommate was taken to another floor. I was hospitalized for two weeks and received IVIG treatments to try to get my counts up. I was told that I almost didn’t make it, by the time I turned 20, I would have full-blown lupus, I would never be able to have kids, not just live a normal life.
I’m currently 28 years old. I have had over 20 blood transfusions and IVIG treatments given at the cancer institute. I almost died having both of my children, who are healthy and well. I went to high school, played sports, graduated and went away to college. I must say that everything they told me I couldn’t do I did. All of this was down by the grace of God! I currently have three businesses; Serenity and Shades, an online boutique, Serenity and shades rentals which offer unique rentals for events, and my pride and joy is my job as an MUA for Your doll beauty. Your doll beauty is dedicated to my roommate when I first was diagnosed with my disorder. My dream is to open up a multi-level beauty bar called your doll. I would like 20 percent of the proceeds to go toward cancer patients monthly. My purpose in life is to make those I meet feel special. Bringing out the beauty when they can’t see it their self. Living life to the fullest because we only get one. I hope this helps you understand my story.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not smooth but nothing in life is. ITP disorder enables me, at times to not give my all. It makes me fatigue, body aches, and overall discouraging from not feeling my best. I attended Alabama A&M but had to move back to St. Louis because I got very sick after having my daughter. I felt like I failed for years. I would say that I’m challenged being a single mom and entrepreneur, however the challenging part is making sure I’m doing everything correctly because I have two little people depending on me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
