Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Gabriel.
Hi Jenny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started teaching various fitness classes on the side over 30 years ago, and a few years later, I grew to teach various fitness classes at a YMCA with general nutrition information. My passion grew to work more with nutrition and how the scope of the whole body health is involved in longevity, including movement, nutrition, and proper supplementation for mineral and vitamin deficiencies. Over the last 10 years, I have continued to study, research, and gained certification in many areas of women’s health from a functional nutrition standpoint. My passion is to help women who struggle with menopausal symptoms. Five years ago, I took my love for working with women holistically, via an online platform through one-on-one coaching and group programs. Now, when I work with women, we take a look through the holistic lens from a 360 degree view of overall health while we use functional testing and nutritional assessments to know their needs to build a protocol for overall health and well-being by giving them a protocol that addresses their nutrition, lifestyle, and supplementation. My focus for the last 10 years has been women’s health.
I understand that navigating the menopausal and postmenopausal journey comes with unique challenges. Personalized nutrition can make all the difference. My online nutritional programs and assessments are tailored specifically for women in this transformative phase of their lives, providing a holistic approach to support your well-being.
What brought me on this path is during my childhood, my mother had a massive stroke with a brain aneurysm. as a result of using pills to get weight loss and body image results. She struggled with self-image, body confidence, and overall better health and turned to prescription drugs and over the counter weight loss pills . This happened at a critical time in my childhood, with me only being 11 years old. I nearly lost my mother with her being left in a coma for weeks, and when she did come to, she had to learn how to walk, talk, read, and write all over again. I lost her 20 years later to continued failed health. She was 56. I was 31 years old and pregnant with our first child. Seeing what happened to her over the years and knowing that if maybe she had just someone like myself to work with, maybe some of this could have been avoided on her body. I find that most women put themselves last because we care for others first. My passion grew for helping others, especially women struggling with getting through some of the menopausal transition, as it can be hard on some and not so hard on others. What they are told is that this is part of it, and nothing can be done to make the transition better and less symptomatic.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been some ups and downs, honestly. When I first started with fitness classes and then, as a certified personal trainer working in the gym, it took time as I was in a small town in Northeast Missouri named Macon. It was not a huge town with about 5500 population, and personal training wasn’t being done in the area. So, I wrote a proposal to our local YMCA to explain the benefits of helping women and men through one-on-one training. They embraced the idea and implemented one-on-one personal training in the facility. After being in the facility and coaching and instructing programs, I realized that many people wanted more about nutrition and lifestyle. At that time, we only shared the basics, but as the need grew, I chose to further my education and got further schooling and certifications to better provide those services. My next major challenge was transitioning out of the facility and into my practice, working with people in an—online format with one-on-one and group nutrition and fitness training vs in-person. The next bump was as I further education; I kept seeing more and more need for more targeted nutrition, functional testing, lifestyle, and supplemental protocols for women to get to the root cause of the symptoms they were experiencing with the menopausal transition. Continuous education is very important in this field to stay on top of the continuous changes in research and better ways of addressing symptoms and how to identify the root causes. The next bump in the road would be when we relocated to the St. Louis area. How I marketed before was much different than how I needed to market when we moved. So, to get people to recognize what I do and who I am, I spend a lot of time getting to know people and putting myself in various community groups to engage with others. Networking groups, involvement in the chamber of commerce, and Little Black Book (LBB) have been my primary focus for meeting people, sharing what I do and who I can help, and sharing collaborations with others along with speaking engagements.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Yes, get involved in as many networking groups as possible and make connections. Get involved with a local Chamber of Commerce. Join a group of professional women like LBB. Do one-on-one with those people that you meet. Sit down, get to know what they do, and so they know what you do. Work with the ones you meet and with whom you can collaborate.
